Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to another action-packed PE Newsletter! We have seen so much progress throughout this term and the students are smashing it!

Congratulations to our Grade 6 Boys and Girls Softball teams who competed at the division gala day last Wednesday! The girls finished in third place, and the boys made it through to the regional gala day! Great efforts by all, we are very proud!

Preps, Grade One and Grade Two

The Preps, Ones are currently working on their locomotor skills. They are focusing on their running and the skills that they can use while running. Students have been practicing through tag games and have focused on Sprinting and dodging.

The Twos are currently practicing their single-handed strike. Week 1 they practiced with tees and this week they have moved away from the tees to a drop bounce hit. They stand in a skateboard stance, stand in an L shape position with their racquet behind their body, and the ball in front of their chest. They use an elephant trunk swing to strike the ball aiming to hit the ball in the middle of the racquet.

Grade 3s to 6s

Grades 3 and 4 have moved into their striking and fielding unit and our in full swing. The 3s have started off learning how to run the bases as well as how to relay throw as we have learnt that the ball in the air travels faster than the ball in our hands. The 4s have not skipped a beat and have jumped straight into games of tee-ball. While they are playing, they are learning new strategies such as when to run the bases and where to aim when they are striking.

The Grades 5s are working on their cricket skills at the moment. They started off working on their bowling with an extra focus on making sure that they are keeping their elbows straight to avoid throwing. This week, we focused on bowling and getting into mini games of cricket to learn the basics of the game and start to bring in some strategy.

The Grade 6s have been practicing their softball skills. They have had an extra focus on striking the ball with accuracy to maximise runs. They have also been practicing their pitching skills, so they are able to prevent the batter from making it to first base.
