Grade 6 Community News

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. It has been wonderful to welcome all our Grade 6 students back to school for the start of Term 4. There is a wonderful energy among the students, and we are impressed with how well everyone has settled back into routines. We hope you are as excited for this final term as we are.
Reading:
Over the past two weeks, we have begun our Poetry unit. Students have looked at various poems by poets such as Emily Dickinson and Ann and Jane Taylor. They have had an introduction to rhyme and have practiced using a model poem to create their own stanzas. Students have enjoyed taking what they have already learned about poetry and enhancing their knowledge with our current unit.
Writing
In Writing, our focus for the term is our scrapbooks. Students are learning about the key features of different types of poems. So far, we have completed our table of contents and our Grade One poem. Throughout the term, students will be working in groups and individually to brainstorm ideas from each year of school and then write different variations of poems on each year level.
Maths
In Maths, we are currently working on data and statistical investigations. Students have been learning about different types of data such as nominal, ordinal, discrete, and continuous. They have also learnt to use digital tools to create side by side column graphs and line graphs on Google Sheets.
