Celebrations of Learning and Community

Year 9 Creative Writing Showcase Evening
This term in English, our Year 9 students have explored a range of text genres and writing styles. They were tasked with creating an original piece of writing inspired by their studied genre, then designing a creative element to complement their piece and bring their work to life.
On Monday, a small selection of students from each class, chosen by their teachers for their dedication, creativity and effort, were invited to present their pieces at our Genre Study Showcase Evening in the Performing Arts Centre. Families and friends joined us to celebrate the incredible work on display and the pride our students have taken in their learning.
Congratulations to our superstar Year 9s for ending the year with such energy, passion and excellence!
Year 12 Graduation - Class of 2025
The Class of 2025 were recently farewelled at their Graduation Ceremony in the Furze Fitness Centre. College Captains and Vice-Captains delivered reflections on behalf of the cohort, and College Principal Anthony Stockwell joined the student leaders for the traditional final ringing of the school bell.
The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students, parents and staff to connect, reflect and farewell one another as the Class of 2025 begins a new chapter in their lives.
The wider Hazel Glen College community wishes the Class of 2025 every success in the future, and we look forward to hearing about the exciting next steps our graduates will take.
Early Start Program & Orientation Days
The past two weeks, our 2026 Year 12 Students have participated in their 2026 Year 12 Early Start Program. This has been an enriching experience for our students to make a head start on their learning and preparation for Unit 3/4 subjects. We wish them well and a wonderful summer break.
Our 2026 Year 11 cohort started their Early Start program this week, which will continue into next week, with their last day on Friday December 5th.
Our 2026 Year 10 cohort will have a two-day orientation program on December 8th and 9th. The 2026 Year 9 cohort will have a two-day orientation consisting of a day at school on Monday December 8th and their retreat day at Wonga Park on Tuesday December 9th. All other 2026 Year 7 and 8 students will participate in the State Wide Orientation day at school on Tuesday December 9th. Please refer to Compass for relevant cohort information and details.
Year 9 City Experience, Community Projects and Upcoming Events
Over the past two weeks, our Year 9 students have been immersed in a rich and varied program designed to strengthen their connection to community, build teamwork skills, and broaden their understanding of the world around them. The Community Projects initiative has seen every student contribute in meaningful and purposeful ways across a range of settings.
Many students have been supporting our Primary Years classrooms, assisting teachers and working closely with younger learners. Others have explored creative expression by producing artworks that celebrate Hazel Glen College’s deep connection to its community. Groups have also ventured beyond the College grounds to participate in Landcare activities, volunteer at Lalor Neighbourhood House, or spend time forming intergenerational connections at local aged care facilities.
During their time in the city, students enjoyed a private screening of the newly released Fantastic Four movie, an experience that brought the cohort together and offered a well-earned moment of fun.
As the term moves forward, students are now preparing for their Year 9 exams next week. These assessments mark an important milestone before they begin their transition into Year 10, where new challenges and opportunities await.
To celebrate the end of a busy and rewarding term, students will have the chance to attend Luna Park, followed by their final Year 9 Experiential Day on Thursday 11 December. This will provide a memorable conclusion to what has been an outstanding period of growth, contribution, and engagement for our Year 9 cohort.
Year 7 and 8 iThrive Shout-Outs and Endeavour Awards
Throughout this year, students have been recognised with a 'shout out' at our year level assemblies for showcasing our College values: respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience. Teachers have nominated students and provided year level teams with examples of how students in each iThrive group are doing their best to demonstrate these important expectations every day. We also have had our Endeavour awards in our year level assemblies at the end of each semester. It is nice to get to recognise so many students each assembly, and classmates have celebrated the positive impact these young people are having every day. This has been a great addition to our year level assemblies this year!

Farewell Bianca - Italian Exchange Student
Bianca joined Hazel Glen College for Semester 2 of Year 11. Bianca quickly formed connections with both staff and students, quickly immersing herself into the community of Hazel Glen College. We hope that Bianca has had a positive and enriching experience at Hazel Glen and wish her all the best as she returns to Italy.
Below is a reflection from Bianca on her time at Hazel Glen.
I really enjoyed my time at Hazel Glen College. It gave me many opportunities for the future, and I was able to form many strong connections with teachers and students. I was able to make friendships that I hope will last forever. I'm really grateful for the kindness that was shown towards me and my difficulties with the language. I'm sad to be leaving so soon, but this would be an experience I would never forget. Thank you all, wish you all the best.
