 Welcome to Term 4!

We’re excited to begin the final term of the year and look forward to a busy and fun few weeks ahead! This term, students will continue building their learning across all areas while enjoying some special end-of-year activities.

A highlight for our Grade 2 students will be the Grade 2 Sleepover in Week 3 on Friday October 24th. This is always a fantastic event where students enjoy games, dinner, and a night of fun at school with their classmates and teachers.

Please remember to return permission and medical forms as soon as possible so we can finalise arrangements and ensure everyone is ready for this special evening.

We can’t wait for another great term of learning and celebration together!

Mathematics

We have recently begun our fractions unit, where students are learning to identify and compare equal parts of a whole. They have been exploring fractions such as ½, ¼, and ⅛, using a range of hands-on manipulatives to divide shapes and collections into equal parts. Through the use of counters, fraction tiles, and paper models, students are deepening their understanding of how fractions work. They are also developing the ability to compare fractions to determine which are greater, smaller, or equal, building both visual and practical understanding through engaging, hands-on learning experiences

Reading

In Reading, students have continued working in their reading groups to practise key comprehension skills. We have also begun reading assessments to monitor each student’s progress and identify their next learning goals. Over the next few weeks, our focus will be on answering questions in complete sentences to demonstrate a clear understanding of what they have read. This practice helps students strengthen both their comprehension and communication skills as they learn to explain their ideas clearly and confidently

Writing

In Writing, students have been learning about the structure of a narrative and how each part helps to create an engaging story. They have explored the importance of including a clear orientation, build-up and dilemma, resolution, and ending to make their writing interesting and easy to follow. This week, the focus has been on creating interesting openers to capture the reader’s attention from the very beginning. Students have also reviewed their past writing pieces and will be identifying their individual writing goals over the next week.
