Welcome back everyone to Term Four. Where has this year gone!

I had the most amazing surprise birthday trip to Western Australia towards the end of last term for a significant birthday number. Just ask your children; they will tell you I celebrated my 21st birthday!! Thank you to Mrs L for looking after my cherubs so well!

In Literacy this week we have learnt about the digraph wh in words such as whistle, whale and white. Students have also been learning to write more information in their sentences adding adjectives, conjunctions and different punctuation. We have been looking at the differences between fiction and non fiction texts and practised our ability to read fluently and expressively. We will begin literacy assessments next week.

In Numeracy we will be revising all curriculum areas for this term. We have begun revising numbers to 30 and beyond including skills such as counting forwards and back from 30, matching words with numerals and amounts plus breaking numbers into tens and ones with numbers to 30 and beyond, for example 39 is 3 tens and 9 ones.

Please continue to read to and listen to your child read their take home readers every night. This makes a huge difference to your child's ability to read and undersatnd what they are reading. Please continue to support your child to read and spell their heart words also.

Prep Guy Student Of The Week

Congratulations to Willow who was voted in by her peers for showing our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience all the time. Students said Willow is a wonderful role model for the rest of the grade. We are so proud of you Willow.

Gardening Cooking Club

This week we planted climbing peas, beans, cucumbers and capsicums in the school vegie garden. We get together every Tuesday lunch time if you would like to join in. Everyone is welcome.

Our Learning 🍎

🔤 In English, students have been reviewing their consonant digraph sounds such as sh, ch, tch, th, ng, ph and wh. These important sounds are being reinforced through reading, writing, and spelling activities. Students have also been diving deeper into narrative elements, particularly characters and settings. This has been a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their phonics knowledge in context while developing their creative writing skills.

🔢 In Mathematics, students have been consolidating their understanding of place value, a foundational concept that helps build number sense. We are particularly focusing on ones, tens and hundreds and skip counting by 2 and 5. These skills are being practised through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks that support the development of mental computation and flexible thinking.

🍃 In Auslan, students have been revising their emotions knowledge and practicing how we can sign using our hands and facial expressions, how we feel throughout the day. We have also been practising commands and concepts such as sit, stand, toilet, quiet, wash hands, play, and line up. These signs are used daily in the classroom to support routine and inclusion, and students are developing confidence in using Auslan to communicate and follow instructions in a respectful and engaging way.

Reading Nights 📖

Congratulations to Jackson and William who are our current Reading Night leaders, each achieving their 225 Reading Night certificates at the end of Term 3.

We celebrate reading milestones in our classroom with a special board - each time a student progresses to a new Reading Night goal, we colour a box.

Keep up the reading, students and families! Regular and consistent reading makes a powerful impact on your child’s learning across all areas of the curriculum, as well as supporting their confidence and wellbeing.

Leo's Journey 🐆

It's Cooper's turn to take Leo home this week! We have a few more friends who haven't had their turn yet, rest assured this will occur over the next few weeks. We love seeing the fun adventures Leo shares with his friends each week. We love seeing and hearing about one another's turn with Leo each week!

A reminder to students and families: each Monday, we randomly draw a name from our ‘Leo Tub’ to decide who will take Leo home. As a class, we agreed this was the fairest way to ensure everyone gets a turn.

Student Achievers 🌟

Our Student Achiever at the end of Term 3 was Zoe and to begin Term 4, River has been chosen to be our Student Achiever! I am so proud of all of your efforts, both in and out of the classroom. Keep making good choices, helping others in need, focusing on your learning and following our school values of being a Respectful Wren, Responsible Ringtail and Resilient Red Kangaroo!

Mrs Murphy - 1/2M

Welcome back to Term 4! Wow, I cannot believe we are in our last term of the year. All the students have settled back in beautifully this week, and we have been straight into our learning program.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been working on our Narratives. Students are learning all the parts of writing a narrative. Students have the choice to write about "The Witch or Wizard, who lost their wand."

Numeracy

We have been learning all about Fractions this week. We are looking at wholes, 1/2, 1/4, and eighths. We are also learning that Fractions can be collections of objects that can be shared into equal groups.

History

This term in History, 1/2M are learning about schools in the past. We have had some fun exploring what we would need to wear if we were a student from the 1900s to the 1950s, and how our school day would run. Students in the class couldn't believe that before you even entered the classroom that some teachers would check to make sure you had tidy hands, hair, teeth, and your ears were clean. We also learnt that students as young as 8 would finish their schooling to go and work on their family farm or factories.

Student Achiever

Our student achiever this week is Evelyn. Well Done, Evelyn, on being a great role model for our class. 🥰

As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child's learning or wellbeing, please reach out to your classroom teachers.

Kind regards,

Jane(Prep Guy), Kate (Prep /One Stoll) and Michelle (1/2M)
