Middle Learning Community

Year 3

It has been a great start to Term 4! We know that the next 9 weeks will fly.

This week we have begun our new text, Charlotte’s Web. If your child would like extra reading practise of this book, we have been encouraging them to borrow this book from one of the libraries. Alternatively, this book can be found on either Spotify or YouTube as an audiobook.

This term we are learning about Science – in particular living and non-living things. Last week we planted a seed using soil/cotton balls. The children have been tending to their seed, watering it and moving it as the sunshine reaches different spots in our classroom.

Year 4

We’ve had a great start to Term 4 in Year 4! In Literacy, we’ve begun our new novel The Wild Robot and started writing persuasive letters about why we should or should not have a robot at home. In Math's, we’ve been learning about decimals. The students really enjoyed our hands-on rich task where they estimated lengths, weights, and volumes, then compared their estimates to the actual results.

In Science, we’ve also been learning about living and non-living things. Last week, we planted seeds using soil, cotton balls, or a mix of both. The students have been taking care of their seeds, watering them, and moving them to find a position that will help their seed grow.

We’re pleased to welcome our student teacher, Fraser Kubeil, who will be joining us for the first four weeks of the term. Fraser is studying at La Trobe University in Melbourne and has already been a wonderful addition to our class. We look forward to working with him and wish him all the best during his time with Year 4.

Grandparent’s Day

We are looking forward to welcoming the students’ Grandparents or special people to Assembly and into our classrooms next Friday the 24th.

Camp

Please refer to the letter that was sent home in the last week of Term 3. This letter included all the details about camp. This will be an important experience for students in terms of developing independence and improving social skills. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

October Mission Month

October is Mission Month, a special time in the Catholic calendar dedicated to learning about and supporting global missionary work. This year’s theme, “Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples,” encourages us to reflect on hope and unity across communities. To mark this occasion, we will be holding Mission Week stalls on Friday, October 31st, to raise funds for Catholic Mission in Australia. These stalls will run from 10:30am until recess, and each item or activity will be available for 50 cents.

MLC (Year 3 - Year 4) – Cake Stall (Cupcakes, Rumballs, Honey Joys)

Please provide a batch of cupcakes, rumballs, or honey joys on the day of the event. No nuts, please.
