Around the Classrooms

Performing Arts

This week in Performing Arts!

The 5/6's this week began discussing songs for their grade six graduation concert, and people were keen to volunteer to sing solo lines!  We also practiced our understanding of chord theory (using the first, third and fifth notes in the scale) and how we can identify chords as soon as we know the base note.

The 3/4's revisited their treble clef understanding:

(the lines) Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit

(the spaces) The notes in the space, spell the word face.  They used this information to create chords in their team, using the first, third and fifth note of the scale. We then played the chords to see if they sounded nice! They also analysed their performance of a song from Mary Poppins to identify "what worked well" and "even better if". It was good to reflect and improve on our skills.

The Mary Poppins videos should be available for purchase soon - watch out for the Audiri!

The preps heard the story of Pirate Pete, which we hope to perform later in the term.  They made inferences with the text (what do certain phrases mean) and also used their understanding to show emotions to help tell the story.  They picked up on the fact it's a rhyming story! We also sang a small section and worked on our pirate inspired dance moves - the students were phenomenal with their suggestions, many of which will become the choreography of the show!

The 1/2's have practiced Pirate Pete too - including getting to know the chorus of the song and singing along.  The 1/2's are now progressing from singing in tune, to adding more interesting things to their singing like loud and soft, short and long sounds and facial expressions.  We can't wait to put this into practice later!

Happy singing, dancing and acting!
