Religious Education

Emma Davies

Over the school holidays I participated in the Inspired to Lead Pilgrimage to Ireland. It was a deeply moving and transformative experience. Travelling alongside 35 colleagues from across MACS, each bringing their own story and role within Catholic education, created a powerful sense of shared purpose and connection. Visiting sacred sites such as monasteries, cathedrals and places linked to Saints who shaped the faith and education of generations allowed me to reflect on the depth and resilience of our Catholic heritage. Learning about the courage, conviction and vision of these remarkable figures renewed my own sense of vocation and leadership. I returned with a heart full of gratitude, a strengthened faith and a renewed commitment to lead with hope, humility and a deeper awareness of God’s presence in all that we do.

One of the most memorable moments of the pilgrimage was our day in Ardmore. We celebrated Mass at the ruins of St Declan’s Well, a sacred and peaceful place overlooking the ocean on a bright, sunny day. The beauty of the surroundings - the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the gentle breeze - created an atmosphere of deep stillness and reverence. It felt profoundly special to gather in prayer in a place so steeped in faith and history, where pilgrims had come for centuries seeking healing and grace. What made it even more moving was when a few locals quietly joined us, their presence reminding me of the living faith that continues to flow through these holy places. It was a moment of true communion - with God, with one another and with all who have walked this path of faith before us.

I am deeply grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part in this pilgrimage. It was a journey of faith, friendship and renewal that will stay with me for years to come. The experience has enriched my understanding and appreciation of Catholic education and strengthened my commitment to lead with faith and hope. I return with a renewed spirit, inspired by the stories, places and people who continue to shape our shared mission.
