Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

This week we would like to share and celebrate the amazing work occuring in our visual art learning space. Not only are we impressed and proud of our artists across Foundation to Year 6, we also consider ourselves lucky to have passionate and inspiring specialist teachers who allow our students to shine and grow across all areas of the curriculum. Thank you Carla Daniele and Alexandrea Ferguson for supporting our students to develop their creativity and design skills as well as creating such beautiful displays across our school.

Foundation students are learning about the art of printing. They explored the beautiful patterned Australian animals and landscapes in illustrations by Bronwyn Bancroft.

Year 2 students are learning about modelling and construction this term. After drawing and planning, they used air dry clay to practise the techniques of rolling a slab, attaching clay pieces, and adding textural elements. They added colour with acrylic paint and finished the work with gloss to complete their piece.

After reading a Deadly Stories article on the closure and ban of climbing Uluru and the significance it holds to the local Anangu people and wider Indigenous community in Australia, students in Year 4 learnt about visual storytelling and had a go at creating their own ‘story quilts’.

Year 6 students explored the work of different famous artists and paintings over time- from Sidney Nolan to Albert Namatjira, Mary Cassatt to Yayoi Kusama. They then explored the concept of collage: both the technique and the resulting work of art in which pieces of paper, photographs, fabric and other ephemera are arranged and stuck down onto a supporting surface.

And to put a smile on your face as we head into the weekend, here's some beautiful snaps of our polite and grateful wellbeing dog, Duke enjoying a slice of warm toast at Breakfast Club. Thank you to Sue and Vickie who organise and run our Breakfast Club throughout the week.

Have a great weekend!
