Interschool Sport Gala Days

Ingrid Briggs, Primary  Sport Coordinator

Following the success of the inaugural Interschool Sport Gala Days last year, it was wonderful to see 208 of our Year 5 and 6 students participating in the winter format again during Term 2. We have been very impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of our Year 5/6 cohort as they tried new sports and participated in the tryouts in preparation for the competition days.

The Gala Days took place on Thursday 6 June and Friday 21sJune with our teams competing against almost 2000 students from other primary schools in our district. It was a privilege for DCC to host the Boys Open Netball competition onsite for these days and welcome 150 students from other schools to enjoy and use the incredible facilities of our Community Hub and Gym Courts.

After two days of running, jumping, throwing, kicking and goaling, working as a team and further developing skills, our students demonstrated the fine balance of competitiveness and sportsmanship and achieved some impressive results. Congratulations to the following teams who achieved a podium finish for the District Competition:

  • Touch Football (Boys) – 3rd
  • AFL (Mixed) – 3rd
  • Softball (Boys) – 2nd
  • Soccer (Boys) – 2nd
  • Touch Football (Girls) – District Champions
  • Soccer (Girls) – District Champions

There are no progression events for the Girls Touch Football competition, however our soccer girls now have the opportunity to compete in the Division Championships taking place at the end of July!

A huge thank you to the 5/6 teaching staff for supporting and encouraging our students during the competition days, and to the following Secondary students who also managed teams or umpired during these events:

Mikayla Gargett, Elijah Bakker (Year 9)

Nadia Buchan (Year 11)

Holly Rees, Noah Sharwood, Nat Reichman, Reuben Parsons, Elijah Naunton (Year 12)

We are so fortunate at DCC to have Secondary students demonstrating such outstanding leadership and support to our younger students, and grateful for their expertise and cheerfulness! We are looking forward to another great District Competition in 2025!

Year 6 Night of the Notables

AnnMarie Lok, Year 6 Teacher

The Year 6 Night of the Notables exhibition was a resounding success, showcasing students' impressive research and presentations on significant Australian figures and historical events. Each student thoroughly prepared and presented, sharing their knowledge through engaging and informative displays on their chosen notable to a captivated audience. The event not only highlighted historical achievements but also celebrated the Christian values and perspectives demonstrated by these notable figures and events.

Students displayed commendable dedication and confidence in their presentations, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of learning and appreciation. A heartfelt thank you to the families who attended and made this an enjoyable opportunity for the students to showcase their learning.

Prepped To Go!

Catherine Fernihough, Deputy Head of Primary, Head of Junior Primary

As we stand at the mid-way point of our current year, we are already looking ahead to the wonderful things in store for next year! This included spending the morning with our smallest little people for 2025 as they attended Prepped to Go!

On Friday 14 June, we had the sheer delight of welcoming 85 excited and precious faces, accompanied by their loved ones, into their very first collective DCC community event. An outstanding team of staff spent time engaging the children in a variety of activities that included physical activity and fun, musical adventures and an opportunity to listen to a story before singing along.

The buzz in the room was a privilege to witness as we saw families beginning to engage in community with those they will travel the years alongside. The innocence of our precious students was on full display, especially as one little boy eagerly exclaimed, "I've already made heaps of friends!" These precious moments are the beginning of a 13-year journey in which each student will create beautiful memories as they become immersed in life and learning here at DCC.

God created us to be in partnership and there is no greater joy for me as Head of Junior Primary, to travel the road with not just these precious little humans but also their families. I never take for granted the honour of parents entrusting their finest little masterpieces into our care. As we closed out the session with the 2025 cohort, what a privilege it was to be able to say to each child and their family that they can be assured of our thoughts and prayers for them as they prepare for this big and exciting transition into school life.

In partnership and community together, my deep hope is that we never take for granted the absolute honour it is to be a part of such a special and unique Christ-centred community.
