Holy Forever!

Tanya Vaughan, Deputy Principal - Head of Primary

If you haven’t yet made it down the hill on a day when the Primary School gathers for a worship assembly, I encourage you to make it a priority at least once next semester. They are a wonderful celebration of learning, of our community and of the work of God in our midst. These assemblies are run by our Primary Leaders, and are full of humour, student participation, singing and teaching.

It is a joy to see our Creative and Performing Arts groups showcase their talent, as music ensembles perform before an audience, and the drama group gains confidence to deliver a piece which encourages each person to be reflective on a theme or Bible passage. The message is always one which gives us focus and points us to the truth of God’s word – and last week’s message, delivered by the creative Jude Shields, reminded us of the hope we have in Jesus, God’s amazing gift of love and friendship extended to each of us.

My personal highlight of these gatherings is our time of worship – where 700 primary students, staff and parents lift their voices in praise to our faithful God. There are a few ‘crowd favourites’ amongst the primary school students – they love singing, “Goodness of God”, “Ask, seek, knock” and a few of the Colin Buchanan classics.

This year, a new one has joined the list – and when it starts playing, you can sense the excitement building around the room. To be in the crowd as they lift their voices and sing, “Holy Forever” is like nothing else! Let me tell you, those 700 little voices can sing – and, as someone who loves to worship, it brings me an overwhelming spirit of joy to be surrounded by the innocence of their voices and join them in proclaiming the truth of these lyrics:

“Your name is the highest

Your name is the greatest

Your name stands above them all

All thrones and dominions

All powers and positions

Your name stands above them all

And the angels cry holy

All creation cries holy

You are lifted high, holy

Holy forever”

As we stand with our toes touching the Term 2 finish line, we can reflect on a big term, full of amazing learning, wonderful experiences and a community that has CHOSEN KINDESS every day. We stand with thankful hearts and declare with unity that our God is the highest, He is the greatest, and He is Holy forever. Let’s give thanks for all that God has done, is doing and will do in our amazing school.

Have a blessed break and enjoy the extended time with family. We look forward to students returning on Wednesday 17 July for Term 3!
