Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week we will continue focusing on a range of writing strategies within our writing.

These sorts of strategies include things such as, using full stops, finger spaces, recording the initial sound and recording the beginning, middle and end sound in words.

VOCABULARY

Full stop- the dot like symbol that goes at the end of a sentence to signal the end of a sentence or idea.

Finger space- the space left in between each word.

Initial sound- the first sound of a word

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your child, discuss some of the strategies that good writers demonstrate in their writing.

Get your child to then draw a picture of anything they wish. Then get them to write a sentence or more to go with their picture. Remind your child of some of the strategies discussed before drawing their picture. After your child has had a go at writing their sentence ask your child to reflect on their work and share with you which strategies they demonstrated in their writing.
