CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week we will be continuing on with our learning of making connections. We will be focusing on making a text-to-text connection.

VOCABULARY

Text to text connection- making a connection between the book we have just read and another book we have read before.

For example: Your child may read the book Pig the Pug and connect the Spot book they have read. They may make this text-to-text connection because the main character in both the books is a dog.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

You, your child or you and your child can read a book together- this could be a book you have at home, a dot book from your child’s blue satchel or a library book.

Once you have read the book, discuss with your child some things they saw such as character feelings, the characters, things that happened in the story etc. Then encourage your child to think of another book they have read that they can connect the book they read to.

Your child may wish to then draw a picture of their connection- on one side of the page draw a picture of something from the book they just read and then on the other side draw a picture of the book they have made their connection with.
