Principal's News

Mr Brian Anderson

Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of St. Francis Xavier,

Our school continues to thrive, and it is a joy to see the children happy and settled. As winter sets in, we have noticed an increase in illnesses among the children, with many being sent home during the school day. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are fully recovered. Unfortunately, several of our staff members have also been unwell over the past two weeks. Consequently, your child may have been taught by a substitute teacher recently. Please remember that our teachers and support staff can also fall ill, and we are committed to ensuring that teaching and learning continue seamlessly at St. Francis Xavier.

Mary Help of Christians and the Rosary

Throughout May, we dedicated numerous liturgies and assemblies to Our Lady. The whole school praying the rosary together last Friday was a beautiful experience for our community. We were fortunate to be joined by Sr. Kari, Sr. Therese, and Sr. Leone on the playground, and thanks to Our Lady, the gusts of wind died down during our prayer.

I had the pleasure of attending the Archdiocesan Mary Help of Christians Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral with some of our Year 6 leaders, Mrs. Scullion, and Mrs. Hannigan. This mass was a wonderful opportunity for Catholic schools in the metropolitan area to come together and honour Our Lady.  Many attendees also commented on the new blazer our Year 6 children were wearing.  Every child in Year 6 has a blazer regardless if they have a captains role.  Every Year 6 student is a leader in my eyes!

First Eucharist

Congratulations to all the children who received the Sacrament of First Eucharist at our parish masses over the past few weeks.

Special thanks to Father Richard and the parish team for their excellent preparation of the children. It was heart-warming to see so many of our children embody the spirit of Serviam by singing in the choir. Thank you to Mrs. Barbera, Miss Biskupic, and the staff who generously gave their time to attend mass and support the children. Witnessing the children receive the sacrament is truly special for me as principal, and I am incredibly proud of them.

Enrichment Program

Mrs. Pack and Ms. Biskupic are now working with selected children in Years 3-6 in our various enrichment programs. These selections are based on student attainment data such as NAPLAN, PAT Testing, and class assessments. The Year 5 and Year 6 children are preparing for their entry in the Tournament of Minds competition in Term 3. More details will follow soon. Additionally, Mrs. Pack will work with all Year 1 and Year 2 students for the rest of the year, exposing them to a variety of extension tasks. We are also planning whole school STEM activities for all our children, with more information to follow later in the year.

Principal Awards Assembly

Our next Principal Awards Assembly will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 8:50 am, followed

by Open Classrooms until 10:30 am.

Kindergarten 2025

Please ensure you respond to your recent offer letter for a place in the 2025 kindergarten class if applicable. We are now organising our Kindergarten 2025 school readiness program for Term 3, and knowing the number of students will assist in the process of planning ahead.

Enjoy the long weekend with your families
