Parent Volunteers
To ensure your safety and under legislative requirements, the College requires every volunteer to complete a College Volunteer Expression of Interest Form and undertake an Induction. This induction has been developed to cover all aspects of volunteering at the College from classroom assistance through to participating in trips, excursions and camps.
The induction will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete and you will be required to upload a photo of your current Working With Children Card before approval is granted.
If you are interested in volunteering in the ELC or other areas of the College, please visit the link below to complete the forms:
3-Year-Old Kinder
Worm Farm
The children have been introduced to the new ELC worm farm, and have been learning all about worms and how to take care of them. The children have begun to collect food scraps from lunches such as fruit peelings and apple cores.
Sprouting Seeds
Last week, we mixed a solution of water-absorbent-polymer with water in two petri dishes, ready to plant seeds into. The children helped to mix together the solution using a long spoon. After the mixture was ready, we planted two bean seeds inside each petri dish, ready to watch them grow.
Volcano
We conducted a science experiment to see what happens when mixing baking soda and vinegar. Together, we built a volcano in the sandpit, and took turns in adding baking soda and vinegar to the volcano. The children were able to see the chemical reaction that took place as the baking soda and vinegar fizzed together and spilt out of the volcano.

Transitioning back into kindergarten
The children have settled very well back into their kindergarten environment and routine. The learning spaces of the indoor and outdoor have been modified and the changes have made the room look much bigger. The children have come back engaged and connected with their peers, and the one big growth we have observed was the increased language used and how much they are collaborating with different mixtures of friendships.
Sustainability, the worm farm and the learning about how God created the world
One of our focuses this term is to be more sustainable while we explore God’s creation and how to conserve nature. This week the children were introduced to our kindergarten pet - the worms. We discussed their diet, their habitat, their features and how they move. We spoke about the importance of worms and how they make the soil in our garden healthy. We planted some seeds in small cups and will be taking good care of them every session to see how they grow.
Dramatic Play
The children have been engaging in an ‘office’ type of dramatic play. They certainly know how to use the computer and phones, some even having very long phone calls with the local police. This cohort of children have been born during the Covid lockdown and have been exposed to their mums and dads working from home in their home offices. It was wonderful to see how they have reflected those experiences into their play and conversations with each other.
Making of Blessing bags and the last week of term 2
It was a wonderful opportunity to have the ELC involved in serving the community at the end of term 2, learning about what we can do for the less fortunate and homeless people. After some in depth discussions, the ELC went for an excursion to the Year 9 classroom to help make blessing bags. On the last day of the term, the Year 9 students came visiting the ELC where we all gathered outside to pray for one another before we started our school break.
