Staff Prayer Walk

During the staff work week at the start of this semester, we were privileged to have the staff circle the College in prayer as we walked around both North and South campuses. It was a special time of connection and worship as we prayed together for students, staff, families and the College community. We would like to make this a regular community event, so stay tuned for an invitation to join the prayer walk next time.

TALIS

Bayside Christian College is proud to be one of only 400 schools in Australia participating in  the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS).  The OECD survey asks teachers and principals about their experiences, their schools and their working conditions. Watch this short video about why TALIS is important and how the results are used.

Parent Conferences

Parent Teacher (Primary) and Parent-Student-Teacher (Secondary) conferences will be held on Tuesday 27 August 3:40pm to 8:00pm and Wednesday 28 August 10:00am to 7:00pm.  In response to the parent survey, all conferences will be conducted in a hybrid format.

Teachers will be available in person at the College for all interview times. If you are unable to come in person, then you can log in online to connect with the teacher for your interview. More information will be sent to you, along with your new PTO login from Monday 19 August

Traffic Management

Please ensure you exit the College gates with the utmost care, particularly in the afternoons when it is most congested. There has been one accident this year and a few near misses. We encourage you to prioritise safety and as much as possible, please turn left to exit either campus to avoid crossing the traffic.

NCCD

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:

  • the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
  • the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Schools provide this information to education authorities. Please find the parent fact sheet, available in several languages on the NCCD Website.

Chaplaincy News

Right now the Chaplaincy program is going smoothly. We have a couple of prayer groups up and running, Assemblies are strong and give the students, staff and parents that attend a sense of what God is doing within this community and the ability for students to express their faith in a safe place. VETA Morphus is coming to an end this term with so many stories from our Year 11 cohort that are impacting the Year 10s to hopefully choose VETA as a course for next year.

This term I dream of more of that. A sense of when someone walks through the gates of this school they feel the difference between us and the one down the road. I believe that right now we have that difference and it starts with many of our young people in their church communities late last term and during the Holidays deciding to get Baptised.

These Baptisms were incredible and the testimonies that came with them are a great example of what is happening inside the many gates surrounding this school, and the impact of Christian teachers and staff we have. Many students named one teacher in particular and that was Mr Joshua Goschnick who is a Youth Leader at Peninsula City Youth and is having a lasting impact on the students in both their church and schooling life.

These testimonies and many more students deciding to give their life to Jesus remind me of a song that I have been listening to a lot lately and I want to leave with you that I believe represents where we are as a Christian School Community and also gives and explanation of why we have so many young people giving their life to God. The Song says;

“There is revival right here and now, There is a fresh wind and I can hear the sound, Something truly wonderful is happening, There is a difference inside of me, More than a feeling this is a prophecy, Something really powerful is happening, Darkness bow down to the day, Mountains get up out my way breaking out of yesterday I got a new thing coming” - Elevation Worship: New Thing Coming

Raising Tech Healthy Humans

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed as a parent in our digital age, navigating challenges around screen-time, smartphones, and social media with our children. That’s why we’re inviting you to sign up for a free online course for parents, carers, and grandparents, created by award-winning author and tech-parenting expert, Daniel Sih.

Note: As this is typically a paid course, Daniel Sih has asked that we refrain from sharing the signup link on public social media platforms. However, feel free to invite friends within your relational circles to benefit from these resources, which are suitable for individuals who are just exploring Christian faith

Topics Covered: The “Raising Tech-Healthy Humans” series includes fifteen short, encouraging videos exploring a range of parenting topics.

  • How do I encourage healthy screen-time limits?
  • What is the impact of interactive media on my child's developing brain?
  • When and how should I give my child a smartphone?
  • How is our technology use a discipleship issue?
  • What is the impact of social media on a child’s mental health?
  • How do I engage in relationship-forming tech-conversations?
  • What can I do to get my kids outdoors to have fun?
  • How do we support each other to make healthy tech-decisions as a community?

Sign up and watch the videos at: www.raisinghumans.au/cen

You can share insights and discuss what you learn from the videos with others in our community through the College Facebook and Instagram pages.

Our aim is to bolster the health and wellbeing of families and encourage them, in Daniel’s words, “to raise faithful, loving, tech-healthy humans as a community.”

STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN to Your Kids

Some years ago I came across a parenting questionnaire developed by thoughtful, careful researchers. One of the questionnaire items asked, “Do you stop and pay attention to your child when your child wants/needs you?”

As a parenting expert I knew there could only be one answer. “Yes, of course I do,” I told myself. The question got under my skin a little bit though, for two reasons. First, I knew deep down that my answer wasn’t entirely honest. But second, am I supposed to stop what I’m doing every time my child needs me and pay attention? I’ll never get anything done! And won’t that spoil my child, creating an entitled little empress who thinks I’m only there to do her bidding?
