Athletics sessions are well underway during Wednesday sports sessions. Students have been learning the correct technique to use for shot put, discus and high jump. This week we will head over to the Golland fields to refine our running and long jump skills in preparation for our upcoming Athletics carnival. Permission for these sessions are now up in our COMPASS portal. Here are a few action shots from our sessions.
Our annual school athletics carnival will be held on Thursday the 27th of June (week 9) at The Golland Fields, Quirindi. The permission for this event will be up in COMPASS this week.
Travel Arrangements for Carnival Day
We will follow the same process as last year where students will come to school as normal and then be bussed over to the fields at 9am. We intend to start our carnival by 9:30am. Busses will then pick students up from the fields by 3pm and bring them back to school for normal afternoon arrangements.
Helpers
If you are able to assist in the running of our carnival please indicate this when signing the permission form in COMPASS. I will need assistance with set up/packup, canteen helpers (only running in break times), timekeepers and potentially helpers on each of the field events (long jump, shot put and discus).
We would love as many parents and family members to be present at our carnival. The children love an audience! Even if you can only spend a little time with us, your presence is very much valued.
800m and High Jump Events
The 800m and High Jump events are the only events that parents need to nominate their children for. All other events are compulsory. These events are only for 8yrs-12yrs. If your child is wishing to participate in these events, please nominate them in the Athletics Carnival permission note.
PT & F Canteen
Our amazing PT&F will be running a canteen for the sports carnival with a menu and pre-orders to be coming out soon. They are also asking for any "baking masters" in our community to contribute a slice, cake, biscuits or something yummy to be sold as an option for morning tea. Please support our PT&F and our children by cooking up a treat.
These sessions, which have been gained through the Sporting Schools Grant Funding, will be held here at school on Fridays until the 28th of June.
Students will wear their sports uniforms on both Wednesdays and Fridays through this time frame.
Session times are as follows:
Group 1: 12:15pm – 1:15pm (Years 5/6)
LUNCH BREAK
Group 2: 1:50pm – 2:30pm (Years K-2)
Group 3: 2:30pm – 3:15pm (Years 3-4)
