Athletics Carnivals

Congratulations on the participation and involvement at both the Senior and Junior Athletics Carnivals on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were both wonderful days all round, with cold but beautiful weather.  Congratulations to Treacy House who were the Senior Carnival winners.

Rugby State Championships

The Rugby State Championships took place over the long weekend and Pius had numerous students involved in the tournament. Congratulations to all who took part. I wish all involved in all this weekend’s fixtures the best of luck, especially the rugby teams travelling to Stannies.

Push-up Challenge

The push-up challenge continues at the college this week.

How it works at SPX: In 2024, the challenge is to complete 3,249 push-ups in 24 days, from 5 - 28 June (or 1,625 if you're aiming for the half-target). This represents the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2022.

Participants can do either all push-ups or substitute with squats or sit-ups.

Each day of the challenge is a different push-up target which corresponds to an important Mental Health Fact. Read and share the daily facts to improve mental health awareness, start important conversations and help smash the stigma around mental illness.

It is not about raising money but donations are welcome.

How to log push-ups:  download the app to log push-ups or online.

How to join for parents and carers:

So, start prepping those shoulders by getting a few push ups in before 5 June and join the challenge with your son!

GPs in Schools - Year 10 students

On Tuesday 25 June local Northern Sydney General Practitioners and Nurses will be facilitating a GPs in Schools workshop for Year 10 students.

GPs in Schools is a 2.5-hour workshop that is delivered by Sydney North Primary Health Network who are funded and guided by the Australian Department of Health. The GPs in Schools program has been running for 28 years in over 50 Northern Sydney high schools.

The evidence-informed program brings registered General Practitioners and Nurses into their local schools to build confidence and health literacy in areas such as access to free healthcare, specific youth health issues, confidentiality, Medicare, bulk billing, and their healthcare rights.

GPs in Schools includes:

• What is health?

• How to use the Australian healthcare system

• Health services available, where they are, how to use them, and what they cost

• Student anonymous health questions

GPs in Schools empowers students to ask questions that matter to them in a safe environment, in their school with their self-selected friendship groups of approximately 15 students per GP or Nurse. Utilising a peer-centred health promotion model that allows students to ask questions anonymously invests in students to take an active and informed role in their healthcare as they transition to adulthood.

A permission slip will be distributed to each Year 10 student. Please ensure this is signed and returned ASAP.

Online webinars

Adolescence is a period of massive physical, emotional, social and cognitive change that marks the transition from childhood to adulthood. Parents and carers play a crucial role in supporting young people to navigate this life stage. There is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about teen mental health with online webinars from the Black Dog Institute on 17 and 27 June. These are free and valuable sources of information.
