Incursions & Excursions

Robotics Incursion - August 13th to August 15th

Mrs Tuhan has arranged a robotics incursion for Term 3. This is a wonderful opportunity for all children to participate. We received a generous donation of $500 from Mooroopna Rotary towards incursions, which has helped subsidise this cost. There will be a cost of $32 per student to participate in this program and this will be on a user-pays basis. CSEF funds can be used to offset this incursion. Fees and permission forms will be raised on Xuno early next term. Please see the information below about the program.

STEM Robotics Education in Schools

Robokids vision is an Australia where every young person leaves school with the innovation and technological skills that they need to thrive in the exciting, digitised, globalised, automated and ever-changing world that lies ahead of them.

Robokids brings the world of robotics to STEM education programs for Australian Schools. Robokids implement a cross curricula, problem solving approach integrating the Digital Technologies, Science and Maths syllabuses developing, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity and resilience.

Bee-Bot

Bee-Bot is an exciting little robot designed for early childhood development. This colourful, easy-to-operate, and friendly little robot is a perfect tool for teaching computational thinking through counting, sequencing, estimation, problem-solving, and just having fun! Our programs foster curiosity, confidence, collaboration, perseverance, logic, learning strategies and mathematical concepts. Bee-Bot is child and classroom friendly and boosts enthusiasm for learning through experimentation wherever it is used.

LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0

Designed for primary classrooms, the WeDo 2.0 set and software is a hands-on solution that ignites students’ curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, maths, engineering, digital technology, and coding.

WeDo 2.0 is used with an iPad. This classroom-friendly digital tool makes technology come to life. In our WeDo workshops the students will initially build a robot following a set of guided instructions, learn to code, then move quickly to the creative phase designing a robot linked to their unit of learning.

Our students simply love the freedom to create and innovate amazing designs which come to life.

Key Learning Values:

  • Investigating, modelling, and designing solutions
  • Engaging students in science and maths by making it real and relevant
  • Programming, sequential logical thought processes
  • Recognition of data, computational thinking
  • Collaboration and presentation skills

LEGO Education SPIKE™ Prime

Spike Prime continuously engages students through playful learning activities to think critically and solve complex problems, regardless of their learning level. Spike Prime facilitates 21st century skills needed to become the innovative and technical minds of tomorrow… while having fun!

Spike incorporates;

  • Investigating, modelling, and designing solutions
  • Engaging students in science and maths by making it real and relevant
  • Programming, sequential logical thought processes
  • Recognition of data, computational thinking
  • Collaboration and presentation skills

LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3

If you are looking to empower students, turning their natural curiosity into creative exploration, the EV3 robot is an instant engagement tool. The EV3 Mindstorm robots and software is a hands-on solution that ignites students’ curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, maths, engineering, digital technology, and coding.

Students will learn to code and program through hands-on challenges specifically designed to their students’ year level outcomes across KLA’s. Each student will create at least 6 – 8 programs throughout our workshops using between 1- 4 of the sensors inbuilt into our EV3 fleet of robots. Students work in pairs and have 1 robot and laptop or Ipad between them. Students are provided with a list of challenges to solve, they are guided by our facilitators, the day moves quickly to a student-centred learning experience where they create their own program designs to solve the challenges posted.
