Further information regarding teams and rosters will be sent out early in Term 3 prior to all rosters commencing.
Students are required to provide their own sport-specific uniforms (different from the official school day sports uniform) which can be purchased through the Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop is open Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, 8.00 am - 4.00 pm or can be contacted at 6249 3610 or st.virgils@midford.com.au. Registrations for students wishing to trial for the sVc Swim Team for 2024 are now OPEN. The trials are for highly capable swimmers and are run in conjunction with Mount Carmel College, St Mary's College, Dominic College, and Guilford Young College. The trials will take place at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre on Friday 2 August (Week 2 of Term 3), starting at 7.15 pm and concluding by 9.00 pm. Students are to make their own way to and from the pool and arrive by 6.45 pm.
Following the trials, the sVc Swim Team will be selected to participate in the SSATIS Swimming Carnival on Thursday 29 August (Week 6) and the SATIS Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 18 September, both at the DKHAC. Please note, the selection trials provide a guide only for the final selection of the team. Past performances, commitment to College sport, and fulfilment of student academic and behavioural expectations will also be taken into account. Representing the College is a privilege and ongoing participation in Co-Curricular activities is subject to advice from Heads of House and College Leadership.
To assist with team selections, students must swim in the appropriate SSATIS year of birth age groups as per below:

If selected for the sVc Swim Team, students are required to wear sVc-approved bathers and swim caps, which can be purchased through the Uniform Shop. Congratulations to student athlete hockey players William Lowe, Oscar Coad (both Year 7), and Hamish McGuire (Year 8) for being part of the winning team in the first-ever Hockey Tasmania U14 State Championships at St Leonards Hockey Centre.
Also, congratulations to student athlete hockey players Hamish McGuire (Year 8) and Trent Smith (Year 9) for being selected in the Hockey Tasmania U15 State Team that will compete in the National Championships on the Gold Coast in July. Earlier this year, Trent was also a member of the U16 State Team that did so well in the National Championships here in Hobart.
Congratulations to Team sVc who defeated The Friends' School 1-0 this week in the Div 2 Hockey Tasmania School Boys Grand Final. The winning goal came late in the second half from Trent Smith.

Congratulations to student athlete tennis player Charlie Marsden (Year 8) who has just completed a week of tennis at the 2024 Australian Teams Championships on the Gold Coast. Charlie did Tennis Tasmania proud, playing as line 1 in the U13 Tasmanian team against the best from QLD, SA, NT, and New Zealand. Well done, Charlie.
Congratulations to student athlete Oliver Morgan (Year 11) who earlier this month competed in the Oceania Athletics Championships in Fiji. Oliver finished 5th in the 5km walk and was drafted last minute into the 4 x 100m relay where they won a Bronze Medal. Oliver was also recently crowned the U18 Athletics South Athlete of the Season. Fantastic season, Ollie.
Congratulations to our Under 15 and Under 16 students selected to represent Football Tasmania at the National Youth (Soccer) Championships in Wollongong from 15-24 July.

Congratulations once again to Luke Morrisby (Year 10) on his national selection to compete at the IFA Darul Ehsan Under 16 World Futsal Championships in Malaysia from 18-24 August. It is certainly going to be a huge couple of months for Luke as he first represents his state in the outdoor version of the game at the National Youth Championships in July, then his country in the indoor version at the World Futsal Championships in August. Wishing Luke all the very best, and may he have safe hands and keep many clean sheets!
The Derwent Sailing Squadron is offering several MAST Power Boat licence courses over the July holidays. This course is open to children over the age of 12 to attain the provisional powerboat licence. They have several courses on offer during holidays, including:
The MAST Motor Boat Course is an intensive course delivered by instructors accredited with Marine and Safety Tasmania to deliver motor boat licenses in Tasmania. DSS can cater for full licences (18 years +) and provisional licences for children (12-17 years) in any of their scheduled sessions. If you meet the age requirement for a provisional licence, please use the discount code PROV when registering.
Costs:
The course includes a practical session in a motor boat, a theory session, and an exam. You will need to wear appropriate clothing for the forecast. We recommend warm clothing, a spray jacket (essential), non-slip shoes, a hat, sunblock, drinks, and snacks. Please get in touch with the DSS if you have any questions at all about the course.
Congratulations to our four Year 8 representatives at the recent 2024 Individual High School Badminton Championships held at the STBA in South Hobart including Andrew Mooney, Adem Zehmeister, Hamish Godfrey, and Finn McManamey.
All four students did a fantastic job, with Andrew making the semi-finals in both the individual and doubles events. Also, best of luck to the team as they take on The Friends' School in the final of the Year 8 Southern Schools roster this Friday night.
Congratulations to all students who represented Team sVc at the recent Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country event. There were some fantastic performances across all age groups from the boys in blue, with a special mention to Arden Petersen (Year 8) who battled hard down the finish straight to secure 2nd place and a spot in the State Team.

Tasmanian All Schools Walks Championships will be held on Saturday 13 July from 12.00 nn at Montrose Bay. Individual entries are now open and close on Thursday 11 July. The event is open to all ages and experience levels.

Congratulations and good luck to Old Virgilians Max Giuliani and Jacob Despard who will be representing Australia at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Max recently stormed into the Olympic team at the recent Australian Swimming Trials by winning the 200m freestyle from lane 6 in the 2nd fastest 200m freestyle ever in Australia.
