Hands On Learning

The HOL team have finished off the term full steam ahead, inspired by Callum's steam 🚂 train project created from cardboard. We began the process of discovering how paper is made and recycled with plans for next term.

Presley had been renovating an antique glamorous dresser, learning many new skills along the way.

On our last Tuesday for the term the team cleared weeds growing around the grafted apple and pear trees in the school orchard and to warm up from the winter chill, created polar fleece blankets to take home. Great effort team!

In Hands on Learning in Week 1, Term 3, Hayley Hocking and I took the HOL students to the Flora and Fauna reserve to removed sallow wattle saplings and to install the signage above the mosaics. Some of the students in HOL had been working with Gloria Freeman and Jess Sambell to create mosaics for the reserves in an after school workshop.

F-1 Literacy

At the end of last term in literacy, we have been learning about procedures. We followed a procedure to make slime. It was a bit messy but lots of fun!

F-1 Maths

During weeks 9 and 10 in Maths, we were learning about Money. The students looked at both coins and notes and or main goal was for the students to recognise, describe and order them according to their value. We also discussed the values of Australian coins is not related to their size. The students had fun making a class shop, where they had to choose two or three items from around the room and give them a dollar value. In pairs, they were given $6 and went shopping. That had to work out what they could and could not afford and then pay the shop keepers (the teachers).

In week 11 students learnt about 2D and 3D Shapes. The students Learning Intention was to recognise and classify familiar 2D and 3D shapes. Students made 2D shapes using pop sticks and 3D shapes using toothpicks and playdough. They also had fun making either a cube, rectangular prism and a triangular prism using a 3D net.

Year 5-6: What I did on the Holidays

"In the holidays, I played footy against Taylors Lakes. We flogged them by about 30 or 40 points.

It was my birthday in the holidays, I got a phone, two hats some crocs and my favourite podcast "Alpha Blokes."

We also went to my Pop's house to do some jobs. We mowed the lawn, cut and split some wood and then cut more wood to take to Beachport to my aunties."

"On the school holidays I went to the Halls Gap Zoo. When we walked in we got some food to feed the deer, goats, kangaroos and wallabies. We saw a lot of birds. Sadly it was raining.

The Red Pandas were climbing everywhere. The monkeys and otters were right next door. The little otters were so cute that my sister and I asked if we could have one. A deer started following me because it could smell the food. I gave it some and then it went away only to return with three more deers wanting food.

The giraffes came as close to the fence as they could, it was amazing.

There were barely any people there because of the weather and when it started hailing we finished off seeing the animals and made our way home. It was amazing."

Kya

"On the holidays I went to Tommy Lee's house for three days. I rode his motorbike. He rode Ivy's motorbike. I fell off the motorbike twice. We kept doing drifts and we got very dirty.

We went to Hall's Gap Zoo and saw lots of coll animals like bison, Texan Long Horn cattle, pythons, meerkats and otters.

The we started moving to our new house on the farm. When we move we will be able to go hunting more and I might even get my own room for the second time.

Then on the Saturday we played Harrow-Balmoral in the footy and I kicked two goals at full forward."

Year 5-6 Camp with Goroke P-12 College

Last week our Year 5-6 students went to Melbourne. They enjoyed a jam packed itinerary of sight seeing and activities.

"On camp we went ice skating and to Bounce. The Bounce air bag gave me a surprise. Bounce had a tightrope, and a dodge ball area, as well as an Obstacle course, trampoline, party and little kids areas.

I made some friends. It was fun, I liked camp."

Charlotte

"On Monday the 15th we headed to Melbourne and once we got there it was so much fun. One of my favourite activities was the ice skating, at the start I was so scared that I held the wall. When I found my feet I went slowly at the start but then I got faster."

Ivy

"On Melbourne camp we did a lot of stuff, but my focus was on the Old Melbourne Gaol and the MCG.

The Old Melbourne Gaol was cool. According to Google there were 133 executions whilst the prison was in use. Also, Australia's most famous bushranger Ned Kelly died there.

The MCG was massive, we saw the longest six. There was a red seat in the grandstand where it was hit. We also saw the Pink suit that Robbie Williams wore when he performed there."

Finn

"We went to the Melbourne Museum and Imax on the second day of camp.

At the Museum we saw a whale skeleton, giant snake skeleton, dinosaur skeletons including the best Triceratops skeleton ever discovered; giant insect exoskeletons, as well as indigenous fashions and culture. I went to the gift shop and bought a rock with a Mosasaur tooth inside it.

At Imax we saw a movie about global warming and how we can help stop it."

Jackson

"Camp was really fun and I think everyone enjoyed at least one or two of the activities! My favourites were the Old Melbourne Gaol, the Zoo and the Queen Victoria Markets.

We went to the Zoo on the Thursday. We split into different groups and had a look around. Our group saw the Australian animals, the Butterfly Enclosure, the lions, elephants, tigers, giraffes and baboons. The baboons were really funny running around and chasing each other.

Most of the things at the Queen Victoria Markets were pretty cheap. I got something for my family and a necklace for myself. The market was our last activity on camp and I thought it was a lovely way to end the camp."
