IN THE CLASSROOM...

Foundation + Year 1

Our Foundation and year 1 students have been using the classic story "Alice in Wonderland" to inspire creation of their own wonderland. Students worked in groups to design an unique wonderland, create a story about their wonderland, then act it out to each other. It is rewarding to see students sharing, discussing and even letting go of their ideas as they learn how to work in a group - an important element for successful drama productions!

Year 2

Our year 2 students have been creating tableaus - a drama technique that uses freeze frames to depict a story or emotion. Also using "Alice in Wonderland" as a prompt, students have practiced using creative and expressive poses to show statements such as "Alice falling down the rabbit hole", or "Alice opening the door to wonderland." Year 2 students also explored using various equipment around the Performing Arts room to aid their drama performances.

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 students have been practicing the ukuleles recently. They have learnt how to play the four chords C, Am, G and F independently, and are currently working on making smoother transitions, and producing cleaner sounds on the ukulele. Year 3/4 students have also been exploring various percussion instruments, including the boomwhackers, clap sticks, bells and so on.

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 students are working hard on mastering body percussion choreographies. Body percussion is a great way for students to not only practice hand-eye coordination skills, but also build their sense of rhythm and time. Up to now, they have learnt three body percussion choreographies - The 7s challenge, Turkish March, and Hungarian Dance.
