2024 Summer Sports Program

HOUSE SWIMMING SPORTS

Wow; what a day and what a turnout! It was a hotly contested encounter this year between the two houses, with only 20 points being the difference all day. After a clean sweep in 2023, it was Ansett only just edging out the reigning champions Jacka this year. Congratulations to the below students who were named age group champions.

Age Group Champions

9 Year Olds: Sofia Caserta & Archie Polkinghorne

10 Year Olds: Elizabeth Marr & Nate Crees

11 Year Olds: Floss Rogers & Charlie Finch

12 Year Olds: Destiny Donald & Sully Steel

13 Year Olds: Aysha-Rose Sullivan & Flynn Lonza

14 Year Olds: Violet Stephenson & Ben Cunningham

15 Year Olds: Dakota Martin & Tate Lovett

16 Year Olds: Amelia Buschmann & Tyson Blair

17 Year Olds: Libby Norman & Travis Lowe

Open: Shelby Giorlando & Maikia Punguika

Highlights:

  • Seeing Nate Crees win the Under 15 Butterfly and the sportsmanship from the older students.
  • Our older students assisting our younger students.
  • Participation particularly when scores were tight (seeing students compete in more events that they had signed up for).
  • Families involved with the day.
  • Staff beating students (and parent/carer team) in the relay.

Big thank you to all parents/carers, friends, and families for showing their support by participating, dressing up and cheering all students on. Thank you to our students for getting into the spirit of the day by participating and dressing up in your colours!

Also, thanks to all staff (Wedderburn & Pool) for their assistance with running the day. Special mentions to Mr G, Joan, Peter, Kylie and Allan for the additional work they do behind the scenes.

Is it the year of the blue or will Jacka bounce back and reclaim their dominance in the Cross Country, Athletics and our soon to be announced fourth activity. Stay tuned...

PRIMARY SWIMMING PROGRAM

What a week. We are so proud of the growth each student displayed last week. It is always satisfying as a teacher when you see students’ confidence build and their skills improve. Thank you to all students who participated every lesson with eagerness.

Thank you to Haley Smith and Robyn Vella for their work and assistance in running the swimming program.

NCD SWIMMING SPORTS

With a very quick turnaround we went straight from the College Swimming Sports on Friday into the NCD Swimming Sports on Monday. 13 students ventured to St Arnaud Swimming Pool to compete against other schools from the district. They all represented  the college extremely well showing great determination and effort in various events. Special mentions go to:

  •  Violet for swimming a great breaststroke event finishing 3rd and also challenging herself in the 100m freestyle.
  • Tyler for volunteering to swim up in the 16-year-old relay so we could compete in that event.
  • Our Year 7 students Bastian, Flynn, Tyler, Blaz, Caleb and Aysha for doing so well at their first NCD Carnival.
  • Chloe, Dakota, Violet and Kayla for finishing 4th in their relay event.
  • Ben for swimming a great first leg in the relay.
  • Noah and Tyson for showing great leadership with our younger students, encouraging and participating their hardest throughout the entire day.
  • Joan for ‘shouting’ all students lunch afterwards and for organising us all!

Well done to all students.
