Principal's Report
Term 1
It is extremely pleasing to report to the school community that the students have experienced an excellent start to the school year. They are busily engaged in learning activities within their classroom and acting responsibly on the playground.
Concord School Council 2024
School Councils play a key role in Victorian Government Schools. A School Council develops a vision for the school in collaboration with all members of the school community and is actively involved in the achievement of the targets within the school’s annual plan.
During the recent process to establish the Concord School Council for 2024, nominations in the Parent and Staff categories were less than or equalled the number of positions available, so an election was not required.
We still require one Parent Member and one Community Member for our School Council. Community members are co-opted, or invited onto council, usually at the first meeting of the newly elected council and can be current parents. Community members cannot be Department employees and typically bring special skills, interests or experience to the council. If you are interested in learning more about the School Council, please email me at matthew.didomenica@education.vic.gov.au or call the school on 9467 3972.
Home-School Communication Plan
A couple of years ago, a Home-School Communication Plan was developed by the School Council following consultation with the school community. The purpose of this was to ensure effective and consistent communication across the school. Please note that communication is through Compass so it is important that you can log into Compass and are familiar with its functionality. If you require any assistance with Compass, please contact Karen Jordan on 94673972 or Karen.Jordan@education.vic.gov.au or click on Parent Guide to Compass.
The Home-School Communication Plan is attached below for your reference. If you are not receiving communication from your child’s teacher in accordance with this plan then please contact the teacher in the first instance, or the Team Leader of your child’s section.
These are the minimum expectations in regard to Home-School Communication at Concord School.

School Uniform
This is a reminder that it is compulsory for all students to wear the full school uniform each day and that the school uniform policy is strictly enforced. Thank you to parents/carers who have supported their children in wearing the correct school uniform.
Please contact Melanie Jackson in the office at the Bundoora Campus regarding purchases of uniform. Further information, including policies and price lists, can be found through the school website at School Uniform - Concord School
Building Works
As we enter the second half of Term 1 it is pleasing to see that the building works at the Bundoora Campus have continued to progress. We are very close to the building being handed over for school use. We anticipate this to be towards the end of Term 1, and we look forward to having our Year 7 and 8 students relocate to their new classrooms. Once this is competed the next stage of the works will commence which will see the demolition of the existing Year 7/8 building and the updating of the Upper Primary playground and outside court.
Punctuality at the Beginning of the School Day
Every day your child is away from school/late impacts on the level of success that will be achieved throughout their time in school. We understand that sickness or important health appointments are a part of everyday life and cannot be avoided.
We also know that getting students to school every day and on time will enable us to get the best out of your child (academic, social and emotional growth) which is always our priority. Routines and procedures are critically important in establishing a strong learning environment within each classroom. For this reason it is extremely important that students are at school, ready to begin their day, prior to the bell going at 9.00am. It is expected that learning begins from the moment the bell rings.
Annual privacy reminder for our school community
Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice. Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.
We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use online systems safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.
For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents.
Principal's Award - Hayden Newman - UPD
Hayden has had a very successful start to Grade 6, getting to know his new classmates and teachers.
He is joining in circle time and completing set work in class.
At recess he is starting to be more confident to go out to play with different peers. He is also taking on more responsibility to manage his personal needs each day.
Well done Hayden, we look forward to seeing how much you grow this year.
