Dear Sacred Heart Community

Prayer

Flourishing Learners

Yesterday our leadership team participated in a presentation on MAC'S vision for our Catholic system and the individual schools within called "Flourishing Learners". This direction which will dictate the curriculum and how it is taught will be the basis of our students learning until 2030. My take away from the presentation is that there will be a concentrated emphasis on explicit teaching going forward across all Catholic schools.

Vision: To become the benchmark for excellence in teaching & learning, with a coherently integrated, academically competitive & distinctively Catholic educational offering

Goal: Improved academic outcomes focusing initially on Primary Mathematics, through targeted MACS programs working in partnership with schools

Aims: To deliver the very best educational outcome for every student, focused on formation of the whole person through:

A pedagogical learning framework for excellence

High-quality curriculum and teaching resources

Performance-oriented teacher support focused on excellent student outcomes

As our understanding of "Flourishing Learners" develops, we will make sure that you are aware of the implications for our school, our teaching pedagogy and hopes for our students.

"Opening Of The School Year" Mass

Thank you to all our families who were with us on Wednesday to celebrate the beginning of another school year and to pray for its success. In a Spirit Filled ceremony at Sacred Heart Church, we were able to welcome our new Foundation students and acknowledge our student leaders in Year Six and across the school. Thank you to Father Aloysius who lead us in prayer, Kate for organising such a special celebration and our great parents who helped serve refreshments.

Parade/Manchester City Soccer Clinics

On Wednesday our Year Four students participated in the first of three soccer clinics held at Parade College Bundoora as part of their Manchester City Soccer School. Our students loved the experience and showed some great skills. Thank you to Parade College for this great opportunity.

Hot Cross Buns Thank you

Earlier this week you received a letter informing you that we are again selling hot cross buns as a fundraiser for our school. I would like to acknowledge the generosity of the Haley family who are again donating the hot cross buns. Their very generous donation means that buns will be sold at a reduced price (i.e.$5.00/pack) and all money collected will go towards our school.

We are able to fill a maximum of 120 orders so once this is achieved, we will not be able to accept any more. Like last year orders will be filled in the weeks leading up to Easter (not all on the last day of term as in previous years) so that you can enjoy these delicious buns in the coming weeks. Orders will be filled as they come into our school.

Donated Icy Poles - Thank you

A big thank you to Natasha mum of Sebastian in Year Foundation, for so kindly donating the icy poles for this week.

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme

As indicated last week, we are participating in the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), an initiative by our government to reduce landfill by encouraging recycling. It is also an opportunity for our school to raise funds.

This week  our students Glendon and Veer accompanied by Veer's mum Gauri, explained the scheme to our students, in particular the containers that are accepted as part of the scheme (please note, crushed containers are not accepted).

We have placed four bins outside the cage where the dumpmaster is situated. If you have any of the eligible containers at home and would like to have them recycled as part of the Victorian CDS, they can be placed in these bins of a morning or afternoon. Once the bins are full, I will take them to the closest CDS outlet with money raised going to our school.

Vale Trevor Gazzara

Some of our parents will remember Trevor Gazzara who passed away earlier this month and whose funeral took place earlier this week. I had the privilege of knowing Trevor as he was Jodi's nephew Sean's (Year Six Student 2021) guardian. We pray for Trevor, Sean, Jodi and her family.

Graduation Tops

Part of Wednesday's Mass was the presentation to our Year Six students of their Graduation Tops. Thank you Cettina for all your work organising these tops. As you can see from the photo, we have some very happy Year Six students.

Reminder Tuesday's School Closure Day

A reminder that this Tuesday is a school closure day as our staff will be undertaking professional development. Youth Leadership Victoria will be offering their services on this day for interested families.

Yours Sincerely

Mark
