Student Achievements

Basketball

Year 8 Academy student Virginia Daley has had a busy summer, participating in the Basketball Southern Cross Challenge as an U15 Bushranger playing against incredible talent. She also competed in the Junior Country Championships Division 1 with fellow academy student Olivia Ouchirenko, playing against some of Country Victoria’s most talented players, both winning and losing some games. Unfortunately, the girls lost their quarter final against the Division 1 winning team Ballarat, but it was an amazing effort from both girls. Well done Virginia and Olivia!

Netball - 2023

In December of 2023, Virginia Daley and her brother Anthony Daley both competed in the Pacific Cup Netball Tournament representing Fiji in their age divisions. An amazing achievement and representation from them both.

Cricket

Year 7 Academy students Blake Savige and Logan Walsh competed in the JCL tournament representing Latrobe Valley. Whilst initially losing to a competitive Sale/Maffra, the Latrobe Valley boys came out on top and won in the Grand Final, taking out the tournament as champions. Well done boys on an amazing achievement.

Golf

During the summer, Rori Snowdon was privileged to be 1 of 8 girls selected from the girl’s scholarship program to caddy for Stephanie Bunque at the Athena at Peninsula Kingswood. What an unbelievable experience for Rori.

West Gippsland Swimming Sports

On Friday the 22nd of February, some of our students competed in the next round of swimming with a few of our students coming out successful once again and moving onto the next round. All students gave their best efforts, and the college is proud of them. The swimmers who are advancing to the next round are William Ainsworth, Shaun Brodie and Darcy Connell.

Netball Tournament

Last weekend some of our Academy students competed in the Inaugural Liza Pharaoh Junior Netball Tournament that raises money for the West Gippsland Hospital Oncology Unit. Not only did the girls represent the Moe Lions Club well through their success after winning the tournament in their age divisions, but they also made Lowanna proud by competing in a sporting event that is fundraising for an important cause. Well done to all the girls involved.

Sports Academy Graduate Update - Mitch in the USA

Sports Academy graduate Mitch Hauxwell-Tepaa has been playing basketball at Sierra College for the past few years and has recently given a statement on his improvement.

“Sierra College is done with the season now. I started the season riding the bench and by the end I was a starter, just by working hard in the gym and on the court every day. I shot 40% from three. This is my first year of eligibility done, next year is going to be an exciting year for me for sure."

Sports Academy Graduate as VNL Captain

Sports Academy graduate Ava Gaul has been selected as the Gippsland Stars VNL Captain. An unbelievable achievement from our former student and we wish her the best of luck in her new, much deserved role.
