Warrnambool Region Schools Sporting Clays Competition

On Monday 4th March, King's College in conjunction with the Warrnambool SSAA held the Warrnambool Region Schools Sporting Clays Competition. This is the third year the event has run and we have grown in numbers each year. We had ten schools represented from as far as Geelong, Ballarat and Hamilton, not to mention local schools.

About 110+ students competed on the day and all students participated with great sportsmanship and respect for one another, highlighting a mutual respect for the sport. The weather, as expected for this time of year was perfect with a slight breeze and sunshine.

There were many wonderful volunteers from across several other clubs and clay target disciplines including SSAA, Field and Game and DTL. They all helped in making the day an incredible success and giving the students an opportunity to join in on one of the safest sports they can compete in, which is so important for regional communities.

We even had our very own King's College Alumni, Olympian and 2023 World Number One, Penny Smith, come down and assist the students with refereeing and encouragement.

There were also some great donations for the competition. These included shells to make the event more affordable, and fishing rods as door prizes for the students who do not always place well in competition, but still have a go, giving them a chance to win a prize.

We did well in competition with Isabella R (Year 11) earning a second place medal after a shoot-off, and King's winning the Best School trophy after producing the best average of all the schools.
