Year Three

Hi Year Three families and welcome back to Term Three!

We hope everyone had a wonderful break.

Reading:

In Reading we have been exploring Making Predictions. Students have been practicing making and changing their predictions as they read. Some texts we have looked at so far are; Edward the Emu, Unplugged and If You Give a Mouse a iPhone.

Writing:

In Grade Three students have started to explore Explanation Texts. We challenged students thinking by having them collaboratively compare different texts to identify their features, whilst also looking at technical vocabulary. Some of the texts we explored were; How do rocket shoes work, how do caterpillars turn into butterflies and how do tadpoles grow.

Maths:

In Maths students have begun exploring Multiplication and Division. Students have been exposed to various strategies including; arrays, equal groups and ways to represent multiplication facts.

Unit of Inquiry:

Where We Are in Place and Time

We are exploring 'Technological advancements have transformed our interactions with the world.'

We started this unit with a provocation gallery walk where students explored pieces of technology throughout history.

Students identified a piece of technology they couldn't live without and completed a show & tell explaining what the technology helps them do, and how it connects them with other people. We also completed a no-tech allowed activity which students really enjoyed!
