Year One
Dear Year One Families we have loved welcoming our students back after the break and are excited for the teaching and learning that is ahead of us in Term Three! It was great to kick off the term with a comfy and cosy Pyjama Day for the Year Ones. We loved seeing how many students participated and the enthusiasm in returning to school.
Reading
In Reading we are beginning to explore and unpack the comprehension strategy, Questioning. Students have been learning the difference between a question and a statement and are being encouraged to form their own questions about both independent and shared texts. After returning from the two-week break, we are also revisiting the expectations of our independent and guided reading routines.
Writing
In Writing we are excited to begin a new genre – throughout the beginning of this term students will be learning the purpose, features and structures of a procedural text. It was also great to see student’s write a recount of events and their favourite activities during the school holidays.
Mathematics
In Mathematics we are revising and extending on our number knowledge by revisiting topics including skip counting, teen numbers, number representations and counting forwards and backwards. Students have been demonstrating their growing abilities when working with 1-, 2- and 3-digit numbers in a variety of ways.
Inquiry
Students have begun our 4th Unit of Inquiry into how ‘Daily Life has Changed Over Time’. Our provocation was a viewing of the film ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’ and introducing students to comparisons of what daily living looked like in the past and present. Students are identifying topics such as technology, toys, transport, and resources as areas of interest to further investigate and compare in the coming weeks.

Year One Swimming Program for Group One - 1A,1B, 1E, 1F, 1J and 1K commences on Monday 11th August
Please make sure your child’s iPad is fully charged and brought to school every day so they’re ready for learning.
Book Week is coming up in Week 5 (August 18–22)! This year’s theme is ‘Book an Adventure!’. Dress Up Day will be held on Friday, August 22, and students are encouraged to come dressed as a character from their favourite story.
If your child is away, please enter the reason for their absence on XUNO. If you need help with this, feel free to contact the office or chat with your classroom teacher.
