Mary Mac Day – August 8

Today, we gathered in prayer as a school community to honour Saint Mary of the Cross, Australia's first saint.

We made this commitment:

The life of Mary MacKillop inspires us to take up our cross and commit ourselves to a more caring and just way of life. Today, we commit ourselves to making our country, Australia, even greater by searching our hearts for the goodness shown by Mary MacKillop.

Like Mary MacKillop, we commit ourselves to being more tolerant and understanding of others, especially in our multicultural society. We pray for migrants who share their gifts with us all. We pray for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who strive for reconciliation and forgiveness. We pray for all Australians who work for tolerance and acceptance.

Like Mary MacKillop, we commit ourselves to promoting peace and justice within our country. We pray that those who live with love and friendship in their lives, reach out to those who are lonely or rejected. We pray that those who live in peace and safety, care for those who live in fear of violence and oppression. We pray that those who live in comfort, share with those who have little or nothing to live on.

Like Mary MacKillop, we commit ourselves to always doing God’s will.  We pray that we may live as God wants us to, by following the teaching and example of Jesus Christ. We pray that in following our own faith, we respect the beliefs of other religions. We pray that our lives may be ones of love and service to others

We sent out our community to serve others:

Through the example of Mary MacKillop, may we all learn to recognise what God wants for us and trust that God will provide for all our needs.

May the way that she lived her life build in us a deep respect for the poor and a passion for justice.

May we share in her courage, see with her vision, and love with her heart. Amen.

Thank you for your generosity, so far we have raised $1075.00 for Mary Mac's Place.
