Parents in Partnership

Learning Walks

St Mary’s, as of this term, is hosting learning walks. A learning walk is a purposeful experience with an explicit focus that an audience can observe, learn from, question, and wonder about. A learning walks, is very different to a school tour. As St Mary’s has embarked on such significant changes in its learning programs, we would like to provide our parents with the opportunity to come, learn about, observe, and raise questions regarding the learning that is occurring in our classrooms so we can better partner in the learning trajectory.

These walks are in small, intimate groups and will focus on one key curriculum area at a time. The groups will be no larger than ten people and will be hosted by key leaders with exceptional knowledge and understanding of what is happening in the learning environment.

Each learning walk will begin with an introduction, expectations, and focus to ensure it is explicit and beneficial. Once the walk has concluded, the group will reconvene to debrief, question, and provide any feedback that may be helpful or affirming to our teaching staff.

Dates of learning walks will be set each term, with a different curriculum area being the focus each time, so that our parent community can be well informed about what is happening in our learning environments. This term we will conduct a learning walk around Literacy which will be hosted by Mrs Ryan, Mrs Lloyd and Miss Adelia.

If this is of interest to you, please watch out on Compass next week to register. Learning walk registrations will close once full, or 24 hours prior.

We hope to see many of you come along and learn more about our learning!
