Principals Message

Dear Families, Teachers, and Students,

Camp Adventures Kickstart Term 3

The first two weeks of Term 3 have been filled with unforgettable learning opportunities as our Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 students embarked on their school camps.

Last week, our Grade 3 and 4 students travelled to Cowes on Phillip Island for a three-day coastal camp that supported their learning in Geography and Science. The camp was also a rich opportunity for personal growth, resilience, and teamwork. Activities such as the Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Pedal Racers, and a beach walk encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones in a supportive environment. It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on and developing a greater sense of independence.

This week, our Grade 5 and 6 students headed to Canberra for what is widely regarded as a highlight of our school’s camping program. The Canberra camp is deeply connected to the Year 5/6 curriculum, with a focus on Australian Government, Democracy, and Science. Students visited iconic national institutions including Old and New Parliament Houses, the High Court of Australia, the Australian War Memorial, and the National Gallery. The camp also provided hands-on learning experiences at Questacon and the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex, enriching their understanding of space science and technology.

We are proud to be recipients of a Federal Government grant that helps make this experience for our senior students possible. The funding supports the principle that every Australian school-aged student should have the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital at least once during their schooling. This financial support helps to reduce costs for families, ensuring that these valuable experiences remain accessible for all Trafalgar students.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff and parent volunteers who attended both camps for their energy, care, and dedication.

We look forward to building on these learning experiences back in the classroom over the rest of Term 3!

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholls
