Physical Education Term 3 Newsletter

Health and PE Specialist Teacher - Mrs Rebecca Robinson

Welcome to Term 3

It has been a busy start to term three with the 3-6 House Athletics as well as the Year 6 basketball day.  The classes have been practising many skills relating to athletics such as running, jumping, leaping and throwing. A focus as always during PE is to try your best, be a fair team player and keep trying. They especially love the weeks when it is free choice and can be creative in their play using equipment as well as trying new things such as badminton and hitting a ball from a tee.

House Athletics

Congratulations to all the children who participated at the Year 3-6 House Athletic Carnival on Tuesday 5th August. It was a wonderful day of sportsmanship, excitement and courage as everyone tried their hardest to perform at their best. It was a fun day with so many opportunities to take part in athletic events, both Track and Field. A highlight for all was the grade 6 verse teacher relay race. And even though the teachers were beat (only just) on the day by a fabulous Kambara running team, it reminded me of how much I love competing and being part of a team!

Cross Country News:

A congratulations to Charley Nelson who has made it through into the Athletic Victorian Cross County Team. She will compete at Nationals in late August, and we wish you all the best. Your training, dedication and hard work is commendable!

Parent Helpers

For sporting events, it is often necessary for the support of parent/carer helpers for events to run safely and smoothly. Volunteers are often needed to supervise teams, help with scoring, walking to various venues and helping out at activities. We have many carnivals such as cross country, athletics and swimming. All of these events and the many more that are provided to your children will often need parent support. Please consider helping whenever you can, even if it is only for a short time. Thank you. :)

When helping with the children at CEPS, it is required that you wear a Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) displayed on a lanyard at all times.

If you have not got a WWCC and wish to volunteer, application forms can be found online at: www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au

Remember to sign in each day you volunteer at CEPS via the computer at the office. This is a mandatory requirement. You will also be required to sign out.

Teaching and Learning

During PE, students are active in moderate to vigorous activity during running and tagging games and skills. They learn fundamental movement skills that enable them to participate in a number of sports as well as learning many social and emotional skills. This term, students will continue to practice kicking skills (AFL), running, dodging and ball skills. They will continue to practise athletic skills for track and field events. The students learn rules, follow instructions and work together as part of a team. The students have fun while running around and becoming more confident in their capabilities and sporting prowess. Students continually learn to negotiate and discuss rules with each other and play fairly in games.
