Year 5 & 6

This term Year 5 and 6 students will focus on working together to create exciting performances which will continue to improve confidence, personality and enjoyment.

They will do this in an encouraging environment where everyone works together and has fun performing and expressing their ideas.

Year 5

In Year 5 this term we have started learning to play the ukulele using a course named 'Blackbelt Ukulele'. This course encourages discipline when playing the instrument. We are learning to sit with the correct posture, place our ukes in the resting position when required and ensure our strumming or finger picking is precise.  We have found it tricky to gain strength and co-ordination with our fingers. This will take a lot of practise.

We will also be participating in short plays and skits and learning items to include in our Year 5/6 concert in Term 4 (date to be announced).

This term in Music we will be:

  • Learning various ukulele strumming techniques
  • Learning to play one finger and two finger chords (C, Am, F)
  • Practising acting skills and working co-operatively with peers
  • Developing personality and confidence performing before an audience
  • Playing instruments accurately in 'parts' for a performance

    Year 6

Year 6 has had an exciting term learning their Dance Sport routines and understanding about 'Respectful Relationships'. This requires an enormous amount of concentration and self control and it has been exciting to watch them co-operating with their partners and trying hard to learn these difficult steps. I can't wait to watch them perform at the Gala.

In Music students have really enjoyed practising and refining their acting skills in short 'partner dramatizations'. They have shown improved confidence, animation and enthusiasm when performing before their peers. Students will also be rehearsing items to perform in our mini concert in Term 4 (date to be announced).

This term in Music we will be:

  • Continuing to rehearse short plays, raps and skits to perform before an audience
  • Learning and perfecting a class dance routine
  • Playing instruments accurately in 'parts'
  • Continuing to give honest, constructive evaluation and feedback to our classmates after performances
