Keeping Our Kids Safe on the Roads

At our school, student safety and wellbeing are always our top priorities and that includes the journey to and from school. Whether your child walks, rides, or scoots, we want every trip to be a safe and a positive start and end to the day.

We know that independence is an important part of growing up, and riding or walking to school can be a great way for students to build confidence, stay active, and connect with friends. However, we have recently noticed some concerning behaviour on nearby roads, particularly with students riding bikes without due care. This increases the risk of accidents, not only for the riders but for other road users.

As part of our commitment to Road Safety Education, we encourage all families to take time this week to:

  • Talk about safe travel habits — including wearing a helmet every ride, looking both ways before crossing, and obeying road rules.
  • Model safe behaviours when walking or riding together — children often copy what they see.
  • Check bikes and helmets regularly to ensure they’re in good working order.
  • Plan safe routes to school that avoid heavy traffic or difficult crossings.

By working together, we can help our students feel proud of their independence and confident in making safe choices. Let’s ensure that every child arrives at school and home happy, healthy, and ready to thrive.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe and well.
