This Term, students in Grades 1-6 have been practising how to sign the 'Acknowledgement of Country' using Auslan. They have also learned the signs for some Australian animals (e.g. kookaburra, wombat, echidna) and further extended their knowledge of the structure of Auslan using H.O.L.M (Handshape, Orientation, Location and Movement) and NMF (non-manual features). Students learned that if they change one aspect of the H.O.L.M or NMF, it can change the meaning of a whole sign!
Students in Foundation have been busy learning how to sign their colours, the alphabet, some family signs and days of the week. They are looking forward to showing you what they can do at assembly on Friday!
