Staff Professional Learning: Building Stronger Relationships through Berry Street

On Monday, our whole school staff participated in a full day of professional learning focused on the Berry Street Education Model, with a particular emphasis on the critical second domain - Relationships.

The Berry Street Education Model defines the second domain - Relationships - as harnessing strong educator-student relationships to cultivate learning and wellbeing. This foundation recognises that positive, trusting relationships form the cornerstone of all effective learning.

Throughout the day, staff delved into practical approaches for strengthening teacher-student relationships, including how to read and respond to student behaviour as communication, and techniques for maintaining connection even during challenging moments. The training emphasised trauma-informed practices that help us create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

This professional learning aligns perfectly with our school's commitment to whole-child education. By strengthening our relationship-building skills, we're better equipped to support not just academic growth, but social and emotional development too.

We're grateful for the opportunity to continue growing together as a staff and look forward to the positive impact this learning will have on your children's school experience.
