ITALIAN DAY 2025! CHE GIORNATA FANTASTICA!

COHR was transformed into a little piece of Italy for one day as we celebrated everything Italian! Thanks to all the Italian themed outfits and special costumes, our school was a sea of verde, bianco e rosso (green, white and red). Our day started with selfies in the courtyard (thanks to Jess Brown for your creative skills and making the selfie frame) and a cup of coffee for our parents. Our school assembly showcased some of the Italian learning at our school as well as a whole school dance “C’e’ la Luna! Thanks to all the parents, grandparents and friends who attended and showed their support on this day.
Students engaged in four different activities which included, gondola making, Italian scavenger hunt, Italian art activity and learning about glass blowing in Venice.
Our tasty lunch of Pizza followed by delicious limone gelato was truly enjoyed by all. Grazie to our Parents Association with funding our lunch on the day. Grazie to Tarantino’s Pizza for supplying the pizza and Naturalis for supplying the gelato. Grazie to the parents who assisted by serving the pizza and gelato, your help was much appreciated.
Thanks to our year 5/6 Italian Day Committee (Amelia. K, Liana. K, Chloe. B & Mila. S) for leading our Italian Day assembly as well as taking lunch time activities which included dance and some Italian themed games.
Students were captivated by an engaging bilingual interactive show called L’ingrediente Segreto. They thoroughly enjoyed the flying vespa, the smoke machine and the fashion show (la sfilata di moda) where they got to see their peers striking a pose on the catwalk. Another highlight of the show, for students, was seeing the teachers act like chickens and Mr. Blain, our year 1/2 teacher dress up as a chicken!
Here are some thoughts from some of the students about the day !
“I enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt because I worked as a team and achieved the goal within 5-10 minutes. It helped me learn about different Italian things while having lots of fun.” Alyssa 5/6G
“The activities I enjoyed on Italian day was when we did the drawing of the gondola with the bridge on top because it was fun and I love to draw” Olivia. B 5/6G
“I enjoyed building the Gondola because I had a great time being with Eddie and Thomas, using our skills Eddie would choose the material and I would put it together, Thomas then would tape the pieces to make our Gondola.” Oliver 5/6C
‘Apart from activities I liked spending time with other people I don't really talk to and also to help the little kids with anything they needed. The show was definitely a highlight because it was funny and we all enjoyed it.” Olivia 5/6C
“Apart from the activities, I enjoyed the gelato because it had the right amount of flavour and it was lemony (which I liked). And I also enjoyed the incursion because it was a mix of learning and fun.” Miles 5/6C
“An activity I enjoyed on Italian Day was the gondola making activity. I liked how STEM was incorporated with Italy so well. It was also fun to create the gondolas and learn about them. I have enjoyed looking at the gondolas as I walk down the corridor. I also enjoyed the drawing/colouring activity. I think it was a good relaxing break from the busy pace of Italian Day.” Amelia 5/6C
“I loved the pizza and lemon gelato we got towards the end of the day. The pizza was so delicious I would definitely eat it again. “ Gisele 5/6C
Grazie to all parents, students and staff who got into the Spirit of the day and made it such a great success and a wonderful experience for all on the day !!
