Primary School

Next week, we will recognise R U OK? Day on Thursday 12 September. It is a special occasion that reminds us all about the power of kindness and the importance of looking out for one another.

R U OK? Day is a national event dedicated to encouraging people to check in on their friends, family and classmates to see how they’re really doing. It’s a day to promote mental well-being and to show that we care. At our school, we believe that kindness and empathy are essential parts of creating a happy and supportive learning environment.

In preparation for R U OK? Day, we’ve planned a series of activities to help our students understand and practise kindness over the next week. Next Thursday we will have an R U OK? Day Walk to School event where we invite everyone to join together, chat and ignite those endorphins with walking or cycling through our beautiful surroundings, to school.

Kindness is something we can all practise every day, not just on special occasions. By reaching out to our friends, being considerate of others’ feelings, and offering a helping hand, we create a school environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

We look forward to celebrating R U OK? Day with enthusiasm and hope that these activities will inspire our students to carry the spirit of kindness with them always. Let’s make the next week a reminder of the positive difference we can make through our everyday actions.

Thank you for your continued support in making our school a place of kindness and caring!

Dockers Shield Year Six Football Carnival: A Day of Sunshine, Spirit and Sportsmanship

This year’s Dockers Shield Year Six Football Carnival was a whirlwind of weather and excitement, a true testament to the resilience and spirit of our young athletes. Held on a dynamic day filled with sunny breaks, gusty winds, and sporadic showers, the event was a rollercoaster of football action and camaraderie.

From the early morning, it was clear that the weather would play a significant role in the day’s events. The carnival kicked off under a bright sun, perfect for a morning of football. However, as the day progressed, the sky changed its mood, throwing in some robust winds and the occasional downpour. Yet, our Year Six and three Year Four and Five students showcased incredible adaptability, turning each weather challenge into a new opportunity for teamwork and fun.

The football matches were as varied as the weather. Our teams experienced both triumphant victories and hard-fought losses. Each game was a testament to the dedication and skill of our players. Though there were a few tough losses, our players demonstrated true sportsmanship, shaking hands and congratulating their opponents with genuine respect.

Thank you to Mr Lachie Steytler for his coaching knowledge, and Mr Berryman and Ms Paige Boyley for accompanying the students.

Magical Mystery History Tour

The Year Two class was excited to venture out a few weeks ago on their Magical Mystery History Tour. This excursion was part of our Inquiry unit ‘Significant People and Places Teach us About the Past’.

The students were excited to visit the Fish Traps, Light Horse Memorial, Town Hall, Mokare Statue, Middleton Beach – Binalup, the Baudin Statue and the long walk along the boardwalk to the Point King Lighthouse.

Now that they are back, they are busy researching one of the places visited, writing key words and then sentences and paragraphs about it. They will then present their information in a way of their choosing. Some are doing posters, some are making models, others are presenting a speech and some are even attempting PowerPoint presentations.

It was amazing to see the amount of knowledge they were able to recall from our day out and about and we look forward to seeing their completed presentations at the end of the term.

AFL Year Six Girls' Dockers Cup

The Year Six girls took part in the annual Girls Football Carnival being held in Albany, competing against other local Primary Schools. What a day this was, performances on the field were exceptional with many great plays displayed. There were a few nerves at the start but with a commanding first game the nerves soon disappeared.  Battling through high winds and sideways, driving rain the girls managed to make the Grand Final. Here, they came up against a strong St Joseph's College team, fighting hard all the way through. The opposition managed to take their chances with the wind displaying accuracy in front of goal and claiming a two-goal win in the end.

Maggie Stephens dominated on the day for GSG, displaying leadership and an array of strong skills throughout. Poppy Lester also showed her pedigree in AFL with quick thinking and a hunger to do well.

Thank you also to Mr Lachie Steytler (Coach), Mrs Gordon and Ms Paige Boyley for their help and guidance throughout the day.

Well done to the team, you represented the school extremely well.
