VOCABULARY

Explanation Text: An explanation text is a non-fiction text that explains to the reader how something works or why something happens. 

Structure: The arrangement of the text. An explanation text structure includes an introduction, explanation sequence and a concluding statement.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Choose an explanation topic to research at home. Some examples you might use are:

• How does a circuit work?
• How does a cyclone occur?
• The life cycle of a moth. 

Create a plan for your explanation text on your chosen topic. What are you going to include in your introduction, explanation sequence and conclusion?
