What's Happening in the Maths Room?

Lately the 1/2 GRIN (Getting Ready in Numeracy) groups have been learning to use wonderful location language so that they can give and follow directions. 

The 3/4 groups have been covering the concept of Area (pun intended). We have used square tiles to calculate the area of rectangles. 

Have a go at our brain teasers below:

Prep/1/2 Brain Teaser

There are 10 chickens in Sam's backyard. Some are yellow and some are brown. 

How many might be yellow?

How many might be brown?

How many different combinations might you find? Draw some of your answers.

Year 3/4 Brain Teaser

I have 24 square carpet tiles. Draw some rooms that I could cover completely with the tiles. How many differently-shaped rooms can you create?

Year 5/6 Brain Teaser 

I have 25 slices of pizza. When I share them with my friends, there is always one slice left over. How many friends might I have? How many different answers can you find?
