UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCES
SELL-OUT FOR SENSE & SENSIBILITY
By Leah Nicholls (Secondary Teacher)
At the beginning of August, the Senior Play Sense & Sensibility was presented to sell-out audiences across three nights. Sense & Sensibility is a classic Jane Austen novel - while the story is set in late 18th-century England this adaptation was fast-paced and full of energy - the cast of 12 took on more than 30 roles between them, everything from love-sick young ladies, dashing suitors, yappy dogs and even footstools!
Using very little in the way of set and props, the cast transported audiences to the English countryside, grand ballrooms and quaint cottages and told stories of love, loss and hope. Despite being written over 200 years ago, Austen’s characters still speak to our modern lives and the students brought the characters and story to life with authenticity and joy. The play was also blessed by original music from the wonderful Mrs Denny and the band who helped to set the tone for the performance - thank you band for all of your hard work and commitment.
This show was a labour of love - it's our biggest play to date and ambitious to say the least. It was a joy to have a front-row seat during the 5 months of rehearsals, watching these young actors push themselves, hone their craft and rise to every challenge we threw at them - they really have done themselves proud, thank you for sharing your God-given gifts with the world!
