SUPER

STRENGTHS

At our school, we believe in the power of character strengths to shape our community and help each student shine. Character strengths are the positive qualities that influence how we think, feel, and behave. By focusing on these strengths, we can support each other in becoming the best versions of ourselves.

For the next two weeks, we will be celebrating the character strength of Leadership. Leadership is about inspiring and guiding others to achieve a common goal. It involves making decisions, setting a good example, and encouraging teamwork.

Here are some ways to improve your leadership skills:

  1. Listen Actively: Pay attention to what others are saying and show that you value their ideas.
  2. Be Responsible: Take charge of tasks and follow through with your commitments.
  3. Encourage Others: Support and motivate your classmates to do their best.
  4. Set a Positive Example: Show kindness, fairness, and respect in your actions.
  5. Work as a Team: Collaborate with others and value everyone's contributions.

Let's all practice leadership in our classrooms, on the playground, and at home. Together, we can make our school a place where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Keep shining, everyone!

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical, and/or social behavior intended to cause physical, social, and/or psychological harm.

The Bullying – No Way! National Week of Action is a significant event on our school calendar, uniting schools across Australia to declare: "Bullying. No Way!" This year, the National Week of Action runs from 12th to 16th August.

During this week at our school, students will engage in discussions and activities focusing on:

  • Understanding what bullying is
  • What actions they can take if they are being bullied
  • How to respond if they witness bullying as a bystander

We encourage you to talk with your children about what they learned and experienced in their classes during this important week.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Lyndhurst Primary School, we are committed to nurturing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all our students. As part of this, our students participate in weekly Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons using the Department of Education and Training mandated Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum. These lessons support students to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others, and establish and build a framework for positive relationships. These vital life skills are essential for their personal development and future success.

We are excited to announce that this term, our curriculum will include important discussions and activities around gender identity and positive gender relationships. These topics are crucial in helping our students develop a deep understanding of themselves and others, promoting empathy, respect, and healthy interactions.

Gender Identity:

  • Students will explore the concept of gender identity, learning about the diversity of gender experiences and expressions.
  • We will emphasize the importance of respecting everyone's unique identity and the role of empathy in supporting peers.
  • Activities will include stories, discussions, and projects that celebrate individuality and foster an inclusive school culture.

Positive Gender Relationships:

  • Lessons will cover the fundamentals of positive relationships, including communication, consent, and mutual respect.
  • Students will learn about the impact of stereotypes and how to challenge them, promoting equality and understanding.
  • Through role-playing and group activities, students will practice skills for building and maintaining healthy relationships.

We understand that these topics are deeply personal and may raise questions or concerns. We want to assure all parents and guardians that every discussion and activity related to these topics will be age appropriate. Our experienced educators are committed to presenting the material in a manner that is suitable and understandable for each age group. We strive to create a safe, comfortable and respectful learning environment for all students.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to provide a comprehensive and compassionate education for our students.
