Year 5 Report
Term 3 2024
Well done on another successful term! We have had a busy term with fun events such as Book Week, Writers Festival and Science Day and our upcoming Sovereign Hill excursion. The students have worked hard and shown great growth both academically and socially.
This term in Writing, students created information reports on topics that interested while we were learning about Australia's colonial history. They developed their own research questions, conducted their own research and included non-fiction features such as glossaries, images and captions. Students were able to publish their finished reports in a variety of different ways including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and as a Poster.
Students have supported their work on Australia's Colonial History by reading a variety of non-fiction texts about each big event in our history including the Gold Rush, First Fleet and Indigenous Australian's.
We began term 3 looking at 3D shape, angles and capacity. We have ended our term looking at Multiplication and Division. We had a big focus on connecting multiplication facts to their arrays and also learning our times tables and the students hard work is starting to pay off as more and more of them are achieving the goal of knowing all their facts up to 10X10.
This term in Inquiry, students have used the knowledge they have gained in our reading sessions about Australia's colonial history to create historical timelines. Students were required to create a summary about each key event in Australia's colonial history and add it to the correct time place on their timeline.
Grade 5 Students participated in a new government initiative to encourage students to walk to school. During this activity students discussed why it was important to do exercise and how they could encourage students to walk to school. Students designed footpath art to be placed on the pathways.
