Prep Report

Term 1, 2024

Well done to all the Preps for completing another term of learning. We wish all the families a safe and relaxing break! 

Literacy 

In Literacy, students have been learning: 

  • about the features of non-fiction texts such as; the front cover, contents page, bolded words, headings and labels on pictures.  
  • they have been reading non-fiction books and learning new facts to write information reports about animals. 
  • how to activate their prior knowledge before reading, summarizing and how to ask questions before, during and after reading.  
  • on creating their own information books in writing.  
  • the digraphs ‘th’, ‘wh’, ‘ph’, ‘sh’ and ‘ch’.  

Numeracy 

In Numeracy, students have: 

  • consolidated their knowledge of base ten, focusing on making numbers using a range of materials including 10s frames and bundling sticks  
  • engaged in weekly challenging maths tasks which includes working with their peers and developing their problem-solving skills 
  • learnt about addition using concrete materials to support their understanding of how to solve number problems.  
  • continued to learn about number bonds and developing their fluency when recalling them orally 

 

SEL 

In Social and Emotional Learning, students have: 

  • revised the core emotions of joy, anger, disgust, fear, sadness, and surprise 
  • learnt about empathy, accepting others and respectfully resolving conflict 
  • learnt how to be a good friend and understand what a problem is and ways to solve problems. 

 

Inquiry 

In Inquiry, students have engaged in our unit ‘Toy Story.  

Students have: 

  • explored new and old toys, how they are made and what they are made from   
  • made different toys in the classroom e.g. ball and cup, fidget spinner ect. 

Important Dates 

  • Kaboom is on the last day of term: Friday the 20th of September - school finishes at 2:30pm. 
  • Term 4 starts - Monday the 7th of October 

 

 

Term 3 Reminders 

  • School starts at 8:50am and ends at 3:10pm 
  • The weather will still be cool in Term 3, so please remember to bring jackets and jumpers which are clearly labelled with your child's name 
  • Oxford words will be sent home in the red folders for reading and spelling practise 
  • Please bring a water bottle clearly labelled with your child's name.
