Spotlight on the GREEN TEAM & Ms.Holmes

The Green Team is a group of students in Stage Three who are working together to create a hope-filled future.

Our aim is to be able to help the other the students know and use the correct bins for their rubbish that they bring to school e.g. food packages and plastic water bottles.

We also aim to have no rubbish floating around our school grounds and the surrounding environments.

Everyday a group of students go and collect the fruit and vegetable scraps from Crunch and Sip.  The scraps are then fed to our worms. We have two worm farms and a small compost system.

We have noticed that since we have begun to collect the food scraps, there has been a decrease in the amount of half-eaten fruit going in the bin.

Most Fridays we collect every classes waste bins and sort out the recycling, making sure the amount of landfill the school has is being reduced.

Today both Stage Two and Three students had a chance to participate in the Pillowcase project. Thank you to Mrs Rosser for making this opportunity possible. The students explored, discussed and planned options and choices in being prepared for disaster situations, using the strategies from the pillow case project. Students examined beliefs and actions that support resilience and some of the ideas connected to adapting and bouncing back from change. It was one of the best workshops that we have experienced this year. Stage Three will use the ideas presented today as a jumping off point for our term four geography unit.
