Dear parents and guardians,
We had a sensational time at Camp Rumbug, last week! It was wonderful to observe our students stepping outside their comfort zones to attempt the giant swing, rafting, canoeing, the mud run, and low ropes. We also enjoyed watching them rise to various challenges that required teamwork and complex thinking. These experiences not only provide core memories, but they offer valuable learning opportunities for self-discovery and social development. Thank you to everyone for making it happen, especially our Parent Volunteers - Louise (Milla), Natalie (Rose) and Mellisa (Adeline).
A gentle reminder that students must wear appropriate footwear to school. Crocs are not considered part of the uniform and pose a safety risk to students.
Please remind your child to bring a charged laptop to school every day, ready for learning.

This money is considered their donation towards Graduation. In Term 4, students will complete a unit of work to determine how profits will be allocated towards Graduation and some form of legacy from the cohort to SEPS.
Literacy
This fortnight our mentor text is The Tale of the Whale by Karen Swann. This sophisticated picture book allows us to examine critical features of what makes a good piece of writing. The students will analyse language choices, underlying messages within the text that link to the authors intended purpose and be given opportunities to recreate their own writing samples modelled on the lyrical mentor text.
Book Clubs are now in full swing with our students working systematically through reading roles: Word Wizard, Read & Sketch, Summariser, Inferencer, Character Canvas, Connections to Text, Inquisitive Questioner, and Narrative Nexus. These reading roles provide a focused lens for students to examine a text.
Students are encouraged to continue their daily reading of 20 minutes.
Maths
We are now moving into a new topic of Money and Finance. This links nicely with our economics work for Market Day. Students will look at strategies for calculating change and percentage discounts. We will also be learning how to create a budget using a spreadsheet. To support this work outside of school, we encourage families to involve students in grocery shopping. Ask your child to estimate the cost of a shop and see if they can keep a running total as you go.
Buddies
Our Level 6 & Level 1 Buddy program will continue this term with lunch together each Monday and an activity each fortnight. This term our focus is wellbeing, with sharing and games as the focus.
Homework
Reading - it is important that students read most nights. 20 minutes before bed is the ideal reading routine. Students can complete a 'read and sketch' of the characters they have read.
Maths - there are revision sheets available in the Homework folder on Teams - General/Term 3/Homework/Optional Work. Students are encouraged to complete the Problem of the Week in this newsletter or go to the Problem-Solving folder on Teams.
Many thanks,
Kristy, Kym, Richelle & Anthony
