Mid Year Intake - R3 Class of Receptions

We welcomed our midyear Reception students at the beginning of this term.  We call R3 our home!

This term, students have been using Play is the Way activities and Play-based learning activities to explore school values and school procedures. We have been exploring how we can Be Kind, Be Brave and Be Safe at school. Some of our activities included Kindness as our superpower, making brave bears and being a bucket filler.

Our focus for Reading and Writing this term is Narrative Retell. Students have explored the fairy-tale Jack and the Beanstalk through different versions of the story, a story table, puppet play and clay making. Our favourite has definitely been the story table or the clay making. Check out some of our cool creations!

In Math this term, students have been exploring counting, subitising and patterns. We are learning to count through play-based learning activities such as board games, counting with a variety of materials, songs and playdoh. When investigating patterns, we have been learning the AB and ABC rules and made patterns using materials such as beads, counters, gems, natural objects, pom poms and animals.

As we settle into school we will continue to investigate the weather in our world, patterns, 'the three little pigs' and making a variety of artworks to show our interests. We look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Book Week

Book Week is an annual event to celebrate reading and the amazing and magical Australian authors and illustrators. Over the week, we celebrated in many ways including treasure hunts and lunchtime craft activities.

On Thursday, we had a whole school Shared Storytime where students visited different classes to hear a story.

We finished the week with the Book Week Assembly and Dress-Up Parade with several categories judged:  Best Homemade Costumes, Best Theme Costume – Reading is Magic, Best Book Character and Best Staff Costume.

Y3 & Y5 projects

Y3 is excited to have dived into procedural texts this term. We have embarked on a hands-on learning journey through our science lessons and cooking experiments. We're busy scientists and chefs learning to write instructions by conducting experiments and cooking. We've teamed up with our Y5 buddies to plant broad beans in our school garden, carefully observing their growth as we explore the plant's life cycle. To capture our progress we've started writing weekly diaries, documenting each stage of our project. Additionally, we've crafted a detailed procedure for growing a plant, allowing us to apply our learning to a real-life situation. It's been a fantastic start to the term, and we look forward to sharing more of our discoveries as we continue this journey!
