Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends,

What a glorious start to the week - the sun was certainly shining for our Green and Gold Olympics Day!

School Closure

As per my Audiri last night, we had an email from South East Water telling us that the water was being turned off from 9.00am through to 4.00pm on Wednesday 21 August. Due to Occupational Health and Safety concerns, we have been advised to close the school as we cannot operate without functioning toilets for an extended period. We did contact South East Water and they explained to us that the water would be off all day. Thank you for your understanding in this situation - in all my years teaching I have never had a forced school closure.

Teachers will communicate with you prior to Wednesday regarding the work that will be sent home for the children to work on.

If you have any questions please come and see me.

NAPLAN

We were proud to receive our school NAPLAN results this year and we congratulate and acknowledge the Year 3 and 5 students who completed NAPLAN.

As a staff we have begun the process of analysing the data which adds value to our teacher assessments and helps us with future planning. NAPLAN shows how our students' achievements compare to a wide group of students across the state and Australia. It is important to remember that NAPLAN results reflect the students' performance at a single point of time and is one form of assessment that is used with the other assessments used at a school level.

Green and Gold day

What a great way to close the Olympics with our own Green and Gold day to celebrate the amazing achievements  of our Olympians. The best medal tally ever!!!

Our children looked amazing in their green and gold outfits and had such a lovely time participating in the different activities planned by Hannah and Mel. A great big nod of thanks to our Sports Leaders who did such a fantastic job explaining and supervising the activities - it is always great to see our Year 6 leaders being so confident and willing to take on these activities.

Many thanks to Hannah and Mel who put together the activities - they did a wonderful job. How lucky were we with the weather - it was a glorious 20 degrees and full of sunshine.

Interview sports leaders -

Mikki - It was a fun day and we had a big responsibility to explain to the younger students about how the activity worked.  It was good not to have a teacher with us as it made us think carefully about what we said and  we became confident with what we had to say.

Kirra - I thought everyone was excited and wanted to do the activities. Most of the children were really engaged.

Chloe - I liked how nobody wanted to sit out and they were very encouraging of each other.

Josh - The Tug of War that I ran was fantastic because it was a lot of fun. The children were competitive but still laughed even if they lost!

Sammy - I ran the Long Jump activity - the children were very keen to get better and to jump further.

Ethan - I think the children had fun competing against each other and really encouraged each other!

Sarah (Year 3/4)- My favourite activity was the relay because I really liked working in teams and expanding on my relationships with other people. Overall I rated the activities 9/10.

Mekhi (Year 1/2) My favourite activity was the vortex activity, because I was competing against my friends. Overall I rated all the activities 10/10.

Ashton (Foundation ) My favourite activity was Golden Child because I like shooting goals, running around the court and cheering on my teammates. Overall I rated all the activities 9/10.

Daphne (Year 5/6) My favourite activity was Tug of War because I liked being in separate teams and competing against others. I liked getting dressed up and supporting Australia. Overall I rated the day 10/10!

TECH OLYMPICS

Jack, Grace, Mikki and Declan proudly represented St Brigids at the Tech Olympics held at Our Lady of the Pines Primary School, Donvale.

What a great opportunity for these children to work collaboratively, problem solve and put their technical skills to the test when participating in the different activities. Thank you to Mrs Finster for driving the children to Donvale and supervising them for the day!

Congratulations to Jack who won a bronze medal and Mrs Finster who won a silver medal for touch typing!

Mrs Finster - We had an amazing day at OLOP (school) completing Tech related activities. The day was so well organised and their student leaders were so articulate and welcoming. All of the students were supportive of each other no matter what school they were from. My favourite activity was using the Spero Indi’s to complete maps.

Grace-  I thought it was a great experience - I got to meet new people and learn new things about technology. My favorite activity was the escape room! The students who ran the event were very good and could answer all our questions.

Mikki - I was very excited when we first arrived and the students who hosted it seemed to have practiced a lot as they did not read off a script and they made it fun because if you answered a question correctly they gave you a chocolate. My favorite activity was the Spero Indi’s. We tried really hard because we could have got a medal!

Declan - My favourite part was the opening ceremony as we had to make flags and schools came from over 2 hours away to compete. Everybody tried their very best and no one was sitting on the sidelines not wanting to compete.

They all agreed we should do it next year if it is available.

YEAR 3 CAMP EXPERIENCE

Our Year 3 students had their camp experience last week. Many thanks to Annermarie, Andrea and Jodie who stayed and created a great camp experience for them.

Mateo - I really enjoyed the Kahoot quiz because we did 25 questions about the Olympics and everything else in the world. I came second and was very proud of myself.

Emily - I enjoyed the scavenger hunt. We had to find objects inside the school grounds  to complete the alphabet. We found an N for nut and H for hat (on Mrs Harrison's head!)

Levi - I really liked making the pizza’s! We snuck into the staffroom and Mrs Marziano found us! Mrs Harrison's handed out certificates for Camp Olympics

My group got gold, Mateo's group got silver and Emily’s group got bronze but it was mainly for fun!!

Tonight our 1/2 ‘s have their camp experience. I wonder what they will do….

FOUNDATION 100 DAY

What a great assembly the Foundation put on for their 100 days of school. They were very excited to show their parents all the learning they have done so far this year. It is so exciting to see how far they come both socially and emotionally and academically! Well done
