Science Week - Bridge Building

Here are the photos from the Science week Bridge Building competition held at Wednesday lunch time where teams of students participated to build a straw bridge to carry the heaviest load of metal weights in grams and be the lightest bridge spanning between two tables.

The participating students were Indiana Hamilton, Imogen Shilling, Amity Shilling, Phoebe Palos, Brooklyn Parkinson, Nina Cutajar, Lexi Vasquez.

They all had to think about their bridge design and use plastic drinking straws taped together to create the most efficient bridge using teamwork and be tested with weights with a time limit of 40 mins.

All of this is a practical application of forces and simple machines which is applicable to real life even though theses were only models. Congratulations to all the students for their effort.

They will all receive a participation award for their effort.

The most efficient bridge was jointly Nina and Lexi, which was able to carry a load of 1250 grams whilst weighing 18.4 g. This was the best bridge.
